About This Pub

Ah, the Royal Sovereign – it's one of those pubs in Salford that really hits the mark for a good night out, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the food is a standout; imagine tucking into flame-grilled dishes that are piping hot and full of flavour, all at prices that won't break the bank. The staff are an absolute delight, always chatting away and making sure you're looked after, which adds to that warm, inclusive atmosphere – it's spot on for families or even bringing the dog along. Plus, with things like free pool, quiz nights, and live sports on the screens, there's always something to get stuck into. On the flip side, though, it's not all roses; a few folks have had issues with orders getting muddled or service turning a bit hectic when it's busy, which could put a dampener on things if you're not prepared. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual catch-up or watching the match, but I'd say it's best to keep expectations realistic and maybe pop in on a quieter day for the full experience – still, I'd give it a go if you're in the area!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely spot on – think tasty, hot meals like that Korean BBQ burger that's a real crowd-pleaser, and it's all great value for money.
  • Staff are lovely and welcoming, always up for a chat and quick to help; special mentions for folks like Annabelle and Cameron who make you feel right at home.
  • It's a brilliant spot for a relaxed vibe with loads of fun activities, like free pool on Mondays, quiz nights on Thursdays, and big sports events on the telly.
  • Family and dog-friendly atmosphere makes it perfect for a casual outing with the kids or your furry mate, adding to that all-round welcoming feel.
  • They've got a good selection of drinks that are refreshing and served with a smile, plus perks like WiFi and a car park for convenience.
Cons
  • There can be the odd mix-up with orders, like getting the wrong dishes, which might leave you a bit frustrated if you're after something specific.
  • Service might get a tad chaotic on busier evenings, as one person mentioned it felt unprofessional and disrespectful, so it's not always smooth sailing.
  • While most visits are great, it seems the place has had its ups and downs in the past, so consistency could be better for a reliably top-notch experience.

Always a good time here. Foods always tasty and hot and the drinks are refreshing. Free pool on Mondays is a bonus and a dartboard for anyone interested in playing aswell as a claw machine for kids and quiz night on Thursdays. Nice and friendly staff especially Annabelle behind the bar. 10/10 would recommend and I will definitely be returning in the future!

Evening meal and drinks before a night out in Manchester. Great service, some of the best pub food I've had in a long time. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Drinks were served with a smile. Special mention for Cameron and Lucie. Looking forward to a return visit.

I had such a lovely visit last week! Had the Korean BBQ burger and it was so so good!! Would highly recommend. Peter, the manager, is a top tier bloke and has really turned this pub around!! Good for him! Adam and Cameron were so lovely when serving me too! Will be coming back!

We’ve been loyal customers of the Royal Sovereign for a long time, but last night’s experience was not only disappointing, it was chaotic, unprofessional, and, at points, deeply disrespectful. We placed five food orders, and three of them were served incorrectly. Despite never selecting the option to swap chips for salad, that’s what appeared on the bill and this mistake was used repeatedly to deflect responsibility. One of the waitresses came over three separate times just to show us the receipt, as though flashing a piece of paper would magically correct the error or justify the cold food. The meals were taken back and returned cold. When we asked to have the chips added (as originally ordered) we were told we had to place a new order (which we then did). No apology. No effort to fix it properly. The bread and butter? We ordered three portions, which was clearly listed on the bill, but we were served one plate with four cold (straight from the fridge!) slices of bread and only two tiny butters. When we pointed this out, they took it away… and never brought it back. The BBQ sauce we ordered never arrived. We waited so long for drinks that we had already finished eating by the time we had to remind staff to bring them. Again, no apology. The manager (blonde, with hair tied back and glasses) was the most disappointing part of all. She was visibly flustered, dismissive, and completely unapologetic. She blamed us for the food being cold and tried to claim we’d only ordered one bread and butter despite the receipt showing otherwise. Her excuse after pointing that out? That “it was all on one plate.” That doesn’t make it correct, it makes it careless. We were eventually refunded, but the damage was done, not to our wallets, but to our trust. This wasn’t just a bad night. This was a total failure of basic service, communication, accountability and a complete disregard for customers who’ve supported your business for years.
