About This Pub
Ah, The Northern Type – it's one of those hidden gems in Eccles that really stands out for anyone who's into their craft beers and ciders. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, they've got an incredible lineup of brews from independent producers, always changing and full of surprises, which makes every visit feel fresh and exciting. The staff come across as genuinely friendly and chatty, creating that laid-back vibe where you can relax with friends or even fly solo without feeling out of place. It's got a solid 4.7 rating, with most people absolutely loving the quality and the welcoming feel, like Sarah and Joshua who couldn't stop praising the beers and the overall experience. On the flip side, though, it's not the cheapest spot – those craft prices add up, and if you're after something straightforward like a cheap lager, you might be better off elsewhere. Plus, with varying opening times and a focus on the craft crowd, it might not suit everyone, but for us beer lovers, it's well worth a visit for that authentic, community-driven charm. All in all, I'd say give it a go if you're in Manchester; it's a proper spot for sharing a pint and discovering something new, but just keep those expectations balanced for the best time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Fantastic selection of craft beers and ciders from independent UK producers – it's a real treat for anyone who loves exploring new brews.
-
Super friendly and chatty staff who make you feel right at home, adding to that warm, welcoming vibe.
-
Lovely atmosphere in a cosy spot, perfect for catching up with mates or enjoying a quiet pint on your own.
-
Handy location right near the train station in Eccles, making it easy to pop in after a day out.
-
Consistently high ratings from fellow beer enthusiasts, with most folks raving about the quality and good times had.
Cons
-
Prices are on the steeper side for craft options, so it might not be the best spot if you're after a budget-friendly pint.
-
If you're not into craft beers or prefer a simple lager, this place might not hit the mark – it's all about the premium stuff here.
-
Opening hours can be a bit limited on some days, like being closed on Mondays, which means planning ahead if you're keen to visit.
-
It's more of a niche venue for beer aficionados, so it could feel a tad overwhelming if you're new to the craft scene.

A lovely bar in the heart of Eccles. Nice atmosphere, nice drinks. We'll definitely be back :)
Best pub in Eccles! Really nice choice of beers and a really friendly and chatty dude behind the bar.
Been here a few times and all the people in there seem chill and happy too giving off good vibes.
Don't go here if you want a cheap pint of crap larger!
Also right next to the train station so pop in for a quick one!

An excellent little Craft Beer place. Cosy, friendly and a bit different from nearby bars. Craft prices, but really good beer. Great place to sit in company or on your own. Near loads of transport. Good value, worth more visits.
Absolutely adore this place and worth driving 100 miles back to my home town for (my brother thinks it's for him 🤣)! Served beers are well kept, interesting and often too strong to sell you a pint of 😉 and the selection of canned and bottled ales is superb and worth a look (they stock my favourite Northern Monk stout and Tiny Rebel ale so I'm happy). Owners are friendly, there are board games and no beer snobs. What's not to like? Are you there yet?
Once you've visited you'll wonder why you ever drank anywhere else. The best craft beer for miles around ever changing 6 keg line up, more bottles and cans than you'll be able to try (believe me Ive tried) and if that's not enough a few special spirts, cider and wine. Great atmosphere, owners and locals. The full package! Can't go wrong!
