About This Pub

Ah, the Royal Oak Chapel Ash – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a second home, you know? From what I've gathered, it's got this fantastic selection of real ales that are always in top form, and the food options like those spicy chilli twists or hearty baps are spot on for a quick bite. The atmosphere is genuinely warm and inclusive, with a mix of folks and even dogs tagging along, plus that cracking beer garden for when the weather's on your side. They've picked up some well-deserved awards for their community efforts, which really shines through. On the flip side, it can get a bit cosy inside when things liven up, so you might find yourself jostling for space, and remember, it's home fans only on match days, which keeps it lively but might not suit everyone. All in all, it's a solid spot for a good night out – affordable, charming, and full of character, but just keep an eye on the crowds and timings to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The real ales are absolutely spot on – plenty of options, all served in perfect condition, making it a must-visit for any beer enthusiast.
  • It's got such a warm and friendly atmosphere; you'll feel right at home from the moment you walk in, with cheerful welcomes and a real community spirit.
  • They've got some cracking food choices, like those chilli twists and cheese and onion baps – packed with flavour and sure to hit the spot.
  • The beer garden is a lovely spot for a pint outdoors, especially on a sunny day, and it's great that dogs are welcome too.
  • It's affordable and has that traditional old-fashioned charm, with awards for community involvement that show they're doing things right.
Cons
  • Space inside can feel a bit tight, especially when it gets busy, so you might have to queue or head to the garden if it's packed.
  • On Wolves match days, it's strictly for home fans only, which could put off visitors or away supporters looking for a drink.
  • The operating status seems a tad unclear at times, so it's worth double-checking before you pop in, just to avoid any disappointment.

A great old fashioned pub. I'm told they have some great proper ales. I don't drink alcohol, but I still really enjoy it. You've got to try the chilli twists. Try their cheese and onion baps. Loads of fillings and the onion will knock your socks off. Delicious.

Just moved to the area so our first visit. We got a very warm friendly cheerful welcome. Tried a couple of the ales on tap... both excellent. Atmosphere was good, nice mix of customer and a number having their dogs with them was great... adding to the comfortable nature across the pub. Will be returning.... regularly no doubt

The Royal Oak is a traditional Victorian street corner pub. Much extended and improved over the years, including a large partly covered beer garden. There is an excellent range of beers, lager and cider, including 3 hand-pulled cask conditions, real ales, which were in excellent condition when we visited. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the landlord took the trouble to tell us about the history of this great pub. If you love good beer, then this pub is highly recommended.

Dropped by last Friday with a friend. Previous visit was in the 80's during college days! Was greeted to a friendly welcome & ended up staying longer than planned. A great selection of beers, all served at the right temperature & in the correct glasses! Limited space inside but there was plenty of covered space outside. Overall, still felt cosy and had a great vibe. Will be visiting again. Definitely recommended.
