About This Pub

Ah, Hamiltons Restaurant in Wolverhampton – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper hidden gem, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is spot on; folks rave about the fresh ingredients and how everything from the evening specials to the afternoon tea comes out looking and tasting fantastic. It's especially brilliant for a Sunday lunch or a catch-up over something light, and the prices are fair enough that you don't feel short-changed. The team there are an absolute delight too – super friendly and on point with service, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there've been a few tales of mix-ups with dietary needs, which is a shame when you're looking forward to a fuss-free meal. Plus, the menu's a bit of a mixed bag, trying to cover so many bases that it might not quite know what it wants to be, and the seating can get a tad snug when it's busy. Overall, though, I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with your eyes open, and you'll likely have a cracking time sharing a laugh and a bite with friends.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely delicious and well-presented – think fresh, local ingredients in a modern British style, perfect for everything from light lunches to those indulgent Sunday roasts.
  • The staff are so welcoming and attentive; they really make you feel at ease, like you're catching up with old mates over a meal.
  • It's great value for money, especially with options like the reasonably priced set menus for Sunday lunch or afternoon tea – a real treat without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and cosy, making it a nice spot for a relaxed get-together in Wolverhampton.
Cons
  • There have been a few hiccups with dietary requirements, like mix-ups that left some folks disappointed despite the excitement beforehand.
  • The menu can feel a bit unsure of itself, jumping between Italian, American, and English influences, which might leave you scratching your head about what to expect.
  • Seating can be a little tight in places, so if you're after plenty of space, it might not be the most comfortable spot during busier times.
  • They require a non-refundable deposit for bookings, which is a bit of a faff and could put you off if plans change last minute.

I chose to eat here spontaneously based on Google review ratings in the area. The food and environment were as good as expected, but weren't exceptional so I wouldn't feel compelled to leave a review. However, Priscilla's welcoming nature, positive energy and attentive service meant I have to leave a 5⭐ review. Visiting anywhere new alone and interacting with strangers can be challenging at best, and upsetting at worst, as someone with an AuDHD brain. So, when someone makes me feel safe and looked after like Priscilla did, with her innate kindness, my appreciation is far beyond what a neurotypical person may feel.

First time at Hamilton's restaurant, Wolverhampton for Sunday lunch and it will not be the last. There's a set menu either 2 or 3 courses which is very reasonably priced. Food was well presented and hot. I had the prawn starter which was delicious and the prawns perfectly cooked. Mains was roast beef (either pink or well done). I chose pink and it was melt in the mouth tender. There wasn't room for pudding so I can't review that. All in all it was a great experience, with well cooked food, presented beautifully and the service was very good too. Give Hamilton's a go, you won't regret it.

Heard a lot of great reviews about this place from friends and family so I booked for afternoon tea with my friend Alison who recentky turned 60. We weren't disappointed. Food excellent, staff friendly and attentive. Will definitely be going again!!

I was super excited to try the afternoon tea here after hearing so much about it. The decor was beautiful and although a little tight with seating the atmosphere was lovely. It’s a real shame that there was a mix up with my order and on the day they weren’t able to cater for my dietary requirements. They did offer for me to have something off the menu and in the end I had a few sandwiches, fries and 2 scones with Jam and clotted cream. A disappointing afternoon tea but would return to try their vegan/egg free vegetarian afternoon tea properly.

I was uninspired by the menu as it seems to be one of those places that doesn't know what it wants to be, Italian, American, English. When we got there though the staff were friendly and there was lots of daily specials that were interesting. I think they should pick an identity (probably English) and then have a menu around that with different specials. The food I had was good and the staff very friendly... The best food though seemed to be hidden away in the specials... Bring them out 😃
