About This Pub

Ah, the Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local spot, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, buzzing energy that's perfect for catching up with friends over a pint. The beers on tap are spot on, and there's loads of space with a pool table and plenty of screens for the footie, which is brilliant if you're into that. Plus, the outdoor seating and garden area are just the ticket for a sunny afternoon. What really stands out is the food – those Filipino and Thai menus are authentic and tasty, with reasonable prices that won't break the bank. The staff seem top-notch too, always friendly and on the ball, making every visit feel effortless. On the flip side, there was a mention of a small issue in one review, something about a caveat that got cut off, which might hint at occasional waits or hitches with service. And it's a bit frustrating that there's no website to check things out beforehand, plus the hours listed are a touch muddled, so you might want to double-check before heading over. Overall, it's a solid choice with a 4.2 rating, and I'd say it's worth a go if you're in the area – the good vibes far outweigh the minor niggles!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers on tap, perfect for settling in with mates for a good chat.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with live bands that really get the crowd going and a cozy vibe that's just inviting.
  • Outdoor seating and a lovely garden area make it ideal for sunny days or a quick pint outside.
  • Plenty of TVs for catching the football, plus a pool table for some friendly competition.
  • The staff are brilliant – friendly, efficient, and always up for a laugh, making you feel right at home.
  • The food is a real highlight; authentic Filipino and Thai dishes that are delicious, reasonably priced, and a hidden gem not to miss.
Cons
  • One potential downside is that the review mentioned a caveat with the service or something similar, but it was cut off – might mean waits for food or drinks can vary.
  • It's a bit of a shame there's no website for easy info, so you might have to pop in or call to check details.
  • The operating hours seem a tad confusing from what's listed, which could lead to surprises if you're planning a visit.

Nice cozy pub, drinks at the bar but the hidden gem, personally, is the filipino menu that they serve. Good menu to choose from and once we tasted the food, it was authentic as it comes and tasted really good. Price was reasonable and they had a nice vibe inside. One caveat though is that once you order food, you are obliged to order drinks from the bar. Parking space just at the side of the pub and you have to enter the car reg at the bar. They have outside seats to use. One thing that also made an impact on me was the toilet was spotless. They had a sunday roast buffet but we opted to order from the filipino menu.

Visited for Drag Queen Bingo and enjoyed the food immensely. Face hurt from laughter and tummy full of delicious Filipino food, delicious. Can't wait to go back and enjoy ourselves again. Service superb, Freyja, by far, the best bar staff they have. Friendly and efficient.

Absolute hidden gem. Lovely garden to the front. Great value Thai Menu. Pretty quiet on a nice sunny Friday, pretty good COVID-19 measures. Felt slot safer than old town.
