About This Pub
Ah, the Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway in Chester, you know? From the moment you step in, you're greeted with this genuine warmth from the staff and the crowd, making it easy to settle in for a relaxed evening. The sports side of things is spot on; they've got all the major matches playing, which is brilliant if you're keen on cheering on your team with a pint in hand – and the drinks are fairly priced, so you won't break the bank. That outdoor area is a real winner too, especially with heaters to keep things comfortable and the fact that it's dog-friendly, adding to the homely vibe. On the flip side, it's a tad compact, so on packed days it might get a bit too snug for comfort, and there's no grub on offer, which means if hunger strikes, you'll need to venture out for a bite. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back get-together, especially if you're after good company and some live action, but keep in mind it might not suit if you're after something more spacious or a full dining experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is incredibly friendly and welcoming, like popping in for a chat with mates – everyone seems to get along famously.
-
They've got brilliant sports coverage with Sky Sports and TNT, making it a top spot for catching the game with a decent, reasonably priced pint.
-
The outdoor seating area is a lovely touch, complete with heaters for those cooler evenings, and it's great that dogs are welcome too.
Cons
-
It's a small and intimate space, which can feel a bit cramped on busier nights when you're after more room to spread out.
-
They don't serve food here, so if you're looking for a meal with your drink, you'll have to head elsewhere or grab a takeaway from nearby.

Amazing friendly good atmosphere decent pint
The Royal Oak is a small /intimate pub with good, reasonably priced real ales and an opportunity to watch sport.
Well wat a brilliant ,I won't call it a pub it's a great atmosphere establishment that's got friendliness oozing with pride because everyone is friendly- staff - customers lovely and warm like being in a friendly house. We arrived on Tuesday 7th of January 2025 at Stone villa hotel around the corner from The Royal Oak and was not disappointed in both places. But this Royal Oak is and was absolutely brilliant . Emma,Annie and Phil really know how to look after you and interact with you. Prices of drinks are standard prices for chester area but you should pay this because you interact with friendly staff customers no animosity at all , made to feel safe at all times. The back outside area is brilliant too. We were very sad to come home on the Thursday 9th January because we found 2 great places to come. So I would well recommend anyone to come here and enjoy themselves. Thank you again from Jimmy and maxine liverpool.
This is our local it's a lovely friendly pub with plenty of characters in there . It is a sports bar , but they do have a Duke box with plenty of your favourite tunes to play. The bar staff are lovely and can't do enough for you . There's also plenty of takeaways opposite. This is not a food pub .
Went for a few drinks great outdoor seating area ,plenty of seats and tvs for Sports. Dogs welcome ,outdoor area has heaters
