About This Pub

Ah, Town Crier in Chester – what a gem for a laid-back pint or a bite after hopping off the train! From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff really shine through; they're bubbly and attentive, making every visit feel personal and enjoyable, just like that time someone raved about Keisha's chatty service or Alex's warm welcome. It's got all the classics sorted too – affordable grub that's straightforward and hits the spot, whether you're grabbing breakfast or watching the footie on one of their many screens. The location's spot on, right by the station, and with perks like a beer garden and dog-friendly vibes, it's perfect for a spontaneous gathering. But, let's be honest, it's not without its downsides; it can get heaving, leading to queues and tables that sometimes feel a tad sticky from the hustle, and the music might crank up a notch more than you'd like for a quiet natter. Overall, though, with a solid 4.0 rating from heaps of folks, it's a reliable choice if you're after good value and a lively crowd – I'd say give it a go, especially if you're up for some sport or just a casual catch-up with mates.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The service here is absolutely spot on – staff like Keisha, Alex, and Rich are super friendly, chatty, and really make you feel welcome, which adds a lovely touch to your visit.
  • It's got a great spot right opposite Chester train station, making it dead convenient for a quick stop before heading into town or after a day out.
  • They offer a solid selection of food and drinks, from tasty breakfasts and pub grub that caters to both meat-eaters and veggies, to a range of real ales and cocktails at affordable prices.
  • If you're into sport, this place is a winner with loads of screens showing everything from football to rugby, plus a beer garden and other fun features like a pool table and live music.
  • It's family and dog-friendly, with options like a function room and bookable booths, so it's versatile for different occasions.
Cons
  • It can get pretty busy, which means queues at the bar and tables that might not always be as clean as you'd hope – some folks have mentioned sticky surfaces from spilled drinks.
  • The music volume can be a bit on the loud side, which might make it harder to have a proper chat if you're after a relaxed catch-up.
  • While the food is cheap and cheerful, it's nothing fancy, so if you're looking for something a bit more upscale, you might find it lacking.

Well what can I say, the food is what you would expect, cheap and cheerful but what would bring me back is the impeccable service. Keisha was bubbly, chatty and very helpful. Thank you so much 😃

I visited yesterday with my friend and was delighted by the service, particularly from the bartender called Alex. Lovely atmosphere made even better by the staff. Music was a bit loud. Overall a brilliant pub, will be visiting again.

Visited Chester for a short day out, off the train and saw a welcoming pub, so we thought we'd pop in for a short bite and a few pre-drinks. The lovely gentleman who was on the bar, named Rich, talked us through the food and drinks menu, didn't spare any details and was very patient and welcoming to our questions. After we placed our order, we decided to explore their huge, lovely beer garden. After having a natter for around 10 minutes, our food arrived, and we weren't expecting the outstanding cuisine we were given, outstanding. Would recommend!

A very busy pub with a good selection of real cask ales on offer. The staff are really friendly and getting served is pretty quick despite the queues to an order. The whole place could do with a good clean though, and tables were sticky with old drinks.

A very convenient spot directly opposite the train station. Train times are on real time display. We arrived and stopped to have a quick breakfast before heading into town. Both my carnivore husband and my vegetarian daughter were catered for with no complaints. The food was tasty.
