About This Pub

Ah, Rose & Chandlers – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of a good night out in Bangor. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the staff go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, whether you're a regular or just passing through, and that karaoke scene from Thursday to Sunday sounds like an absolute blast, with folks of all ages joining in for a sing. It's got that genuine local charm, like stepping into a proper community hub where the craic is always flowing. On the flip side, it's strictly a drinks-only spot, so if you're peckish, you'll need to plan ahead and grab a bite nearby, as there's no food to speak of. Oh, and the toilets could do with a bit of an upgrade, from what some have said, which might not ruin the evening but certainly isn't ideal. All in all, with a solid 4.5 rating, it's a gem for anyone after a relaxed, fun evening, but it's probably not the place if you're after something fancy or food-focused. I'd say give it a go if you're in the area – you might just find your new favourite spot for a pint and a tune.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially with karaoke running from Thursday to Sunday – perfect for a singalong and a good laugh with mates.
  • As a proper local pub, it has that authentic, cosy vibe that's hard to beat, with regulars and visitors alike getting stuck in.
  • The location's spot on, right on High Street in Bangor, with nearby restaurants and taxis making it easy to pop in for a pint and then head out for a bite.
Cons
  • There's no food on offer, so if you're after a meal with your drink, you'll have to head elsewhere.
  • The toilets aren't up to scratch, which can put a bit of a dampener on things after a few rounds.
  • It might not suit everyone – if you're looking for a quiet spot or something more upscale, this one's more about the lively, traditional pub scene.

I love this pub! Great staff and lots of original atmosphere. It may not be for everyone, but if you want a local pub with excellent staffing, give the Rose & Chandler a try. Can’t wait to find my way back to Bangor. Thank you John for setting me right on Guinness! I am still a Guinness fan! Hope to see you the fantastic staff again soon.

Great bar which I have made my local. Very friendly regulars and staff with John the manager making all feel at home including those visiting for the first time. A proper bar as no food is served, but restaurants are all very close by. Taxi firms are also very convenient to the bar. Overlooking the marina this is a great wee bar for those on holidays or on business in Bangor.
