About This Pub

Ah, Hop House in Bangor – it's one of those spots that really hits the mark for a proper pub experience, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's got this great mix of top-quality beers and cocktails that make it a go-to for anyone wanting a decent drink without breaking the bank. The events, like those comedy nights, add a real spark; imagine grabbing a ticket for a laugh with mates on a Friday – sounds like a winner. And the staff? Well, most folks rave about how helpful and cheerful they are, remembering orders and making you feel at ease, which is just lovely for building that community feel. On the flip side, it's not all pints and praise; a couple of reviews mentioned some staff being a bit off-hand, which could put a dampener on your evening if you're unlucky. Plus, it does get heaving and noisy, especially at the weekends, so if you're after a peaceful chat, you might want to pick a quieter time. Overall, with a solid 4.3 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear this place does a lot right, but like any good pub, it's got its quirks. I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a grand time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are generally warm and attentive, like that time Alex remembered a whole long order without missing a beat – it really makes you feel looked after.
  • They've got a cracking selection of craft beers and cocktails, plus a top-notch pint of Guinness that keeps everyone coming back.
  • It's buzzing with events like comedy nights and live music, adding a fun, lively atmosphere that's perfect for a good night out.
  • Dog-friendly until about 9pm, which is brilliant if you're popping in with your four-legged mate for a relaxed drink.
Cons
  • A few of the bar staff can come across as a bit unhelpful or even rude at times, which might spoil the mood if you're not expecting it.
  • It tends to get quite noisy on weekends, so if you're after a quiet catch-up, you might find it a tad overwhelming.

Alex remembered my order perfectly, before double checking (it was a long order) and was wonderful to deal with

Great bar, great music, excellent craft beer selection, the only downside was the 2 bar staff downstairs were incredibly unhelpful/borderline rude - (everyone who was there said the same thing).

Lovely pub which pours a great pint of Guinness The best part is the staff. Very nice and friendly. It is also dog friendly up to like 9pm. Before then. On the weekend it does get nosier for the dog though.
