About This Pub

Ah, the Red Lion – it's one of those no-fuss local spots in Wolverhampton that's perfect for popping in for a pint and a bite when you're in the mood for something straightforward. From the reviews, the food really shines; think fresh-cooked dishes with bold flavours and hearty portions that won't empty your wallet, which is always a win on a night out. The staff are a highlight too, being genuinely friendly and making you feel welcome, which adds a nice homely touch. On the flip side, though, the venue itself looks a bit tired and could use some TLC – a few folks mentioned it's run-down, with the kitchen and serving areas not living up to expectations and some communication slip-ups that might spoil the flow. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after good grub and a casual chat with friends, but if you're seeking something more polished, you might want to keep looking. Still, with that high rating, it's clear it gets plenty right for most visits.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh, well-marinated, and packed with great flavours, making it well worth the wait for a satisfying meal
  • Staff are lovely and welcoming, with the bar team and even the chef and his wife adding a personal touch that makes you feel right at home
  • Plenty of seating options and a menu with loads of choices, plus it's all at brilliant value for money with generous portions
Cons
  • The place feels a bit run-down and could do with a proper refurbishment to freshen things up
  • Kitchen and serving areas aren't quite up to scratch, with some communication issues that might leave you a tad frustrated
  • It's more suited for a quick pint with mates rather than a family get-together, as it doesn't quite hit the mark for a polished experience

Ok for a pint, bar and grill a no from me, run down place, needs refurbishment, kitchen area and serving areas are not the best, communication is a issue with the cook. Not a place I would take family and friends, ok for a quick drink. Staff behind bar ar are friendly.

Our first visit to the Red Lion. Order our drinks at the bar then went to find a seat. Plenty of seating areas. Lots of choices on the menu. Order our food at the hatch and wasn't long before our food arrived. We both enjoyed our meals.

Family of 4 went here at 6pm for a meal. Staff were friendly and food part is run separately from the pub. We had 4 great meals, lamb saag was £7, regular mixed grill £8, large mixed grill £12, kebab wrap £5, naam bread £1! Great value, all the meat was cooked to perfection with large portions. Will return but maybe eat in the extension at the back of the pub as when we left the pub was getting rather busy.
