About This Pub

Ah, the Punchbowl in Lapworth – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its charm, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the Sunday lunches are just brilliant; people can't stop raving about how delicious and well-put-together they are, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed weekend get-together. The staff sound like absolute stars too, always on hand with a smile and quick to sort things out, which adds such a warm touch to the experience. Plus, with a cracking range of drinks and even rooms available if you fancy extending your visit, it's got that extra appeal for a proper night out. On the other hand, it's not all smooth sailing – a few recent chats mention the food not being quite up to scratch, like meals arriving lukewarm or not as tasty as before, and there were some tales of dodgy service when it got busy, with orders going awry. Still, with an overall solid rating, I'd say it's worth popping in, especially if you time it right, but keep an eye out for those off days to make the most of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The Sunday lunches are absolutely spot on – hearty, tasty, and always a hit with everyone.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from cracking ales and lagers to some standout cocktails like the Truffletini.
  • The place has a lovely atmosphere with a beautiful restaurant setup, and it's great that they offer rooms for overnight stays if you're in the mood.
Cons
  • Food quality can be a bit inconsistent, with some folks mentioning lukewarm meals that didn't quite live up to expectations.
  • Service might let you down on busier evenings, like when there's a large group, with issues like orders not arriving or dishes falling short.
  • It's a shame about the occasional slip-ups, as a few recent visits haven't been as enjoyable as they could be, even if the basics are there.

Our favourite place by far! The Sunday lunch is the best! The drinks, especially the Truffletini’s are incredible and the staff are so friendly. Conor always manages to sort us out a table last minute. Can’t fault the food and the staff! The best !!

Our Sunday Roast at the Punchbowl was simply wonderful. We were given a lovely welcome, the restaurant itself is beautiful. We really enjoyed our food which was tasty and well presented. The Manager was such a lovely guy and took the time and trouble to speak to us to make sure we were enjoying our experience and the waitress was very attentive. 5 Stars from us! We will definitely be going to the Punchbowl again and have already booked in for Father’s Day!

Dined at the Punchbowl a few times now and each time the food and service gets even better. Menu offers such a variety, there is something to suit everyone. Each time I visit, I try something new and always feel so pleased with the quality. Staff members are always so quick, attentive and kind. Nothing is ever too much to ask. Manager personally came over to ask how our meal was - felt like a really personalised service. We will be back very soon!

Always had an amazing experience and wonderful food here, but came on Saturday with a large group for dinner and had the worst service and below average food, two of the meals that were ordered didn’t even turn up, the steaks which were usually amazing were average at best, the fish starter came fully scaled and when asked about this the waitress replied with, well I can bring you another but it will be exactly the same, she was very rude on several occasions. Such a shame because it used to be one of our favourite places to eat, now we won’t be coming back

Used to come here all the time and have 10/10 food. I recently had a lukewarm meal and messaged the restaurant privately to let them know constructive feedback without putting it on Google but went again today and yet again another lukewarm meal. Wasn’t bad, just wasn’t very good either. Says Free Range Chicken but been before and it’s been a chicken breast and today was the leg with the wing and very fatty, no stuffing came with the meal as promised, roast potatoes lukewarm, greasy and soft where they had been sat under the chicken, gravy was light, watery and lacked depth. Service and ambience was good but doubt I’ll go back now when that’s twice I’ve had a bad roast. Shame as when it’s good it’s very good but not worth a 30 min drive for a gamble!
