About This Pub

Ah, Pug Uglys – it's one of those places in Belfast that you stumble upon and think, 'Now that's a bit of fun!' Tucked away on Bedford Street, it's got this unexpected USA twist with things like NYC maps on the walls, serving up burgers and even Yorkshire pudding wraps that are just delicious. I love how the food really shines; it's hearty, well-cooked, and leaves you satisfied without breaking the bank. The staff are mostly brilliant too – you'll find some absolute gems who make you feel like a regular from the get-go, and it's heartwarming to see them welcome dogs with open arms. The atmosphere is buzzing, ideal for a pint and cheering on the footie with your mates. But, let's be honest, it's not all roses; the music can be a right earful with those 90s tunes blaring, and I reckon they could do with being more upfront about the theme so you're not caught off guard. Oh, and while most folks are lovely, there was that one barman who seemed a bit off, which soured things for a few. Still, with a solid 4.2 rating, it's worth a visit if you're up for a lively night out – just go in with an open mind and maybe book ahead!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think tasty burgers, buffalo chicken, and some cracking roast dinners that really hit the spot.
  • Friendly staff who go the extra mile; we've heard about servers like Dillon who's a right laugh and makes you feel right at home.
  • It's super dog-friendly, with staff offering treats and water, which is brilliant if you're out with your furry friend.
  • A lively atmosphere that's perfect for catching a football game or just having a good old chinwag with mates.
Cons
  • It's got a strong USA theme that isn't always clear upfront, so you might be in for a surprise if you're expecting something more traditional.
  • The music leans heavily on 90s and early 00s pop – if you're not a fan of bands like Nickelback, it could grate on you after a while.
  • One or two staff members can have a bit of a bad attitude, which might put a dampener on your visit.
  • It can get pretty noisy, especially when there's a game on, making it tough to have a proper conversation.

This is a USA themed restaurant and I wish they were upfront about that in the description. Map of NYC on the wall. They served burgers, buffalo chicken, and lasagna. They play the worst 90s and early 00s pop music. If you like nickleback, you’ll LOVE IT here. Food is pretty good tho.

Absolutely fantastic spot with incredible food. Our dog was so welcomed, and the staff even gave her treats and some water. Great atmosphere and absolutely incredible Yorkshire pudding wrap. We will be back! PS definitely reserve.

My wife and I dropped in here not knowing what to expect but we were VERY impressed! The atmosphere was great, the food selection was good and the pints kept coming!! What stood out the most was the friendly, informative service we received from our server, Dillon! Making our first trip to Belfast even better!

Easily one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had. 10/10. Everything was delicious. Unfortunately, the gent behind the bar really let this place down with his bad attitude—it set a negative tone the moment we walked in. The lady with the red hair, however, was a dream and looked after us well—she was the saving grace of the visit.

I visited here on a recommendation, and I'm glad I did. The service is excellent. Great customer service. The food is tasty. The atmosphere is lively, to say the least, especially when there is a football game on, be prepared to be croaky the next day after having to shout if you wanted conversation.
