About This Pub
Ah, Sweet Afton in Belfast – it's one of those places that really gets the mix right for a fun night out, but like any spot, it's not without its little ups and downs. I have to say, the food stands out as a real winner; folks rave about the seafood chowder, calling it the best they've had in Ireland, and there are plenty of menu options from all-day bites to Sunday roasts that keep things interesting. The atmosphere is another highlight – with live music cranking up every weekend and sports matches playing on the screens, it's got that energetic buzz that's perfect for meeting up with friends or catching a game with a cold one in hand. Plus, the staff are an absolute gem; they're attentive and full of local tips, which adds a nice personal touch. On the flip side, though, the music can sometimes be turned up a tad too high, making it a challenge to place an order or have a proper chat without shouting. And while the prices are moderate, some dishes like the chicken can come across as dry, with frozen-feeling sides that don't quite live up to expectations, leaving you wondering if you're getting your money's worth on portions. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual outing in the city, especially if you're after good company and a lively scene, but I'd suggest keeping an eye on what you order to avoid any disappointments – it's all about picking the right moments to pop in for the best experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros

-
Happy hour deals are a brilliant find in Belfast city centre – not something you see every day, and they add great value to your night out.
-
It's conveniently located and open late, perfect for a casual meal or drinks after exploring the area.
Cons
-
The music can get overwhelmingly loud at times, making it tough to chat with the server or even hear your order properly.
-
Some dishes, like the chicken, can be a bit dry, and the sides such as roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings might feel like they're straight from the freezer.
-
Portions don't always match the price – you might leave feeling like you've paid a bit too much for what's on the plate.
-
Value for money can be hit or miss, with some meals feeling on the small side for a moderate spend.

We went in as we were staying opposite at the Travelodge. The Music was so loud the staff couldn't hear what we wanted to order. Thankfully They did turn it down. Dry chicken with frozen roast potatoes and frozen yorkshire pudding for £19.50. Bargain!
Update to say the staff are lovely.
The food was fantastic! The seafood chowder was the best we’ve had in all of Ireland! Definitely hit this place if you are in the area. You won’t be disappointed.
Mixed feelings about this place. Visited May 17th with family as a party of 7. Food was prompt and staff attentive. Food was warm, kids meal great, however would grumble about portion size vs value for money. I personally had the chicken burger and it was very small- a chicken breast cut 2-3 times length ways to make a thin burger. Needs reviewed or recommend you just go with the beef burger.
Everything was great! Happy hour prices were great. Really rare to see in Belfast city centre.
Called in 2 nights running to catch up with friends and watch a few football matches over a couple of glasses of the black stuff. Good atmosphere, both nights. Staff were helpful and knowledgeable about where to visit while in Belfast.
