About This Pub
Ah, The Marcus Ward, it's one of those places in Belfast that you stumble upon and think, 'Now that's a proper find!' From what I've gathered from chats with others, the cocktails are where it really shines – they've got an impressive lineup of classics and inventive ones like the Black Violin or the Irish Old Fashioned, all mixed up with care and at prices that won't set you back too much, especially with those happy hour deals. The team behind the bar are just brilliant, always friendly and attentive, which makes the whole place feel welcoming and relaxed. Pop in on a weekend and you're in for a treat with the lively atmosphere and maybe even some live music to get things buzzing. But, and I say this with a bit of caution, the food's not quite up to the same standard; a few have mentioned it being greasy and arriving at wonky times, which has put a damper on their evenings and even left them feeling a bit off. Still, if you're after a spot for cracking drinks and good company rather than a full meal, it's definitely worth a visit – just manage your expectations on the grub side, and you'll likely have a smashing time!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are absolutely spot on – a cracking selection of classics and creative mixes like the Mai Tai or Espresso Martini, all at a fair price around £7.50, with promotions making them even more of a bargain.
-
The staff are genuinely lovely and welcoming, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels right at home, which really adds to the charm.
-
It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when it livens up with live music and a bit of buzz, making it a proper hidden gem in Belfast for a relaxed or fun evening.
-
Happy hours and deals, like £6 cocktails, create a great vibe and make it an affordable spot to enjoy a drink without breaking the bank.
Cons
-
The food is a bit of a letdown – it's greasy and doesn't always arrive on time, which can spoil the experience and leave you feeling under the weather afterwards.
-
It can be quite quiet during the week, so if you're after a lively spot all the time, you might find it a tad subdued outside of weekends.
-
A few folks have mentioned not enjoying their visits enough to return, particularly due to the food issues, which takes away from what could be a top-notch night out.

Great friendly service but the food really let the place down and arrived at significantly different times. Didnt feel good after eating the greasy food. Couldnt recommend and wont return.
This is such a wee gem in the heart of Belfast. The people who work there are the salt of the earth, genuinely lovely people. It's got a great atmosphere inside and the cocktails are amazing. It's a very quiet place most of the time but lively enough on a Friday and Saturday night.
3 weeks later and I’m still here and can’t leave. What a spot! Tried to goto the cinema, was surprised to find it demolished. Jokes on the cinema, I found The Marcus Ward! Can’t recommend it enough for food or drinks. Unfortunately I cut my knee from an accident, I was moon walking on the dance floor. Tony from the pizza oven sorted me with a plaster and a firm shake of the hand to assure I was ok! 5*
I love their cocktails/mocktails. They are running a promotion with 5£/cocktail. The place is quiet during weekends though. Hidden gem I may say.
Wow, what a find. Found this cocktail bar by accident and I am so glad we did. Second night visiting it in a row.
When we arrived at 6pm on Friday, it was happy hour, £6 all cocktails. There were a band playing music and the atmosphere was amazing.
The staff made lovely cocktails for us just by listening to our drink choices. The staff knowledge of cocktails and the friendly service was brilliant.
We had a ball both night. The bar is lovely and airy. Highly recommend a visit to here. You won't regret it.
