About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about the Prince of Wales – it's one of those classic London pubs that just feels like a proper hideaway in the bustling West End. I've heard from folks who've popped in that it's absolutely smashing for grabbing a pint before the theatre, with a great lineup of beers and ales that keep things interesting. The staff are genuinely warm and quick to lend a hand, which makes the whole place feel inviting, and it's fantastic if you're keen on watching the big games; they show everything from Premier League footy to rugby and more. Plus, being family and dog-friendly, it's a versatile spot that caters to all sorts. On the downside, though, some mates have shared their gripes about the food – that Sunday roast sounds like it missed the mark, with overcooked beef and soggy spuds that left a bad taste. And if you're after a buzzing atmosphere for a laugh with friends, it might come across as a bit subdued. All in all, it's a solid choice for a casual catch-up, especially if drinks and vibes are your main focus, but I'd say keep expectations in check for the grub to avoid any disappointments.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of beers and ales that really hit the spot for a proper pub experience.
  • Friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home, always up for a quick chat.
  • Brilliant for catching live sports like football, rugby, and more on the big screen.
  • Family and dog-friendly vibe, making it a welcoming spot for everyone to enjoy.
  • Prime location in the heart of Covent Garden, perfect for a pre or post-show stop-off.
Cons
  • Food can be a bit of a letdown at times, with some dishes like the Sunday roast coming out overcooked and greasy.
  • Atmosphere might feel a tad quiet or draining if you're after a lively, banter-filled evening with a big group.
  • Bathroom facilities are on the small side, which can make things a bit cramped when it's busy.

Worse Sunday roast I ever had! The beef was an overcooked steak and not slices from a joint, which is what you expect. And the potatoes were clearly sitting there for hours and drenched in grease. I pointed out to staff who confirmed that they were cooked that morning, as if that was a good thing. Wasn’t offered to change, swap or anything to compensate for the disappointment.

This place sucks. I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews. I had the “award winning steak and ale pie” and it was so gross, I couldn’t even finish it. And the mash potatoes were the worst I’ve ever had. And for the cherry on top, the bathroom was the smallest stall I’ve ever used…disgusting…..

Our vets footy team from Canada visited a couple of different times on our trip. Very friendly staff with an excellent selection of tap/bottle beers & cask ales. There is plenty of seating and it was also great enjoying pints just outside in the sun. We didn’t get a chance to enjoy the food, but I’ll definitely be back to do so on my visit next month.

Great place if you're looking for a quaint, lowkey place for a calm evening. Drinks are great, and the location is accessible. Atmosphere is quite draining if you're looking for a pub to hang and banter around. Likely not the place for a large group.

Absolutely fabulous... Fancied a lovely meal before a matinee theatre performance... and we certainly got that here. Spacious and bright inside.. Attentive, polite and friendly staff. Great service and Great food. Unfortunately, a number of the main meals contained onion, inc. BBQ Chicken, Steak & Ale Pie and even the meat within the Cheese & Bacon Burger... However the staff were ever so accommodating; and amended my meal for me. (Thank you.) We ordered the Katsu Chicken Burger and 'Buttermilk Chicken replacement' in the Cheese & Bacon Burger.. Both meals for great.. the chips amazing. Totally recommend this place and we will certainly return when in the area.
