About This Pub
Ah, the Plough in Waltham Abbey – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, you know? I've got to say, from what I've seen, the staff really shine through; they're super friendly and make you feel right at home, especially if you're there with the little ones or the dog in tow. The garden is an absolute treat on a sunny day, with plenty of space to unwind, and that Sunday carvery sounds like a winner for a hearty meal. Prices are fair too, so it's not going to break the bank for a nice lunch or dinner. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – a couple of reviews pointed out that the place can look a bit dim and not as spotless as you'd hope, and there was that disappointing mention of tough beef in the roast, which might leave you wishing for better quality. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.2, it's clear most people have a good time, so if you're heading out for a casual pint or a family meal, I'd say give it a go and see for yourself; just keep those expectations balanced, and you might end up with a lovely afternoon.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going the extra mile to make sure everyone feels welcome, like that waitress Amelia who handled a fussy eater with such ease.
-
It's a fantastic spot for families and dog owners, with a lovely garden and outdoor seating that's perfect for sunny days, plus it's got its own fort for the kids to play on.
-
The Sunday carvery is a real highlight, with delicious food and a great selection of locally brewed real ales and fine wines to enjoy.
-
Plenty of parking and it's wheelchair accessible, making it easy to pop in without any hassle.
-
Prices are moderate, so you get good value for a meal and a drink, especially for a family outing.
Cons
-
Some folks have mentioned the place looking a bit dark and not as clean as it could be, which might put you off on a bright day.
-
There have been complaints about the food quality, like the beef in the roast dinner being tough and not up to scratch, which is a shame for a pub that prides itself on its meals.
-
It might not always hit the mark for everyone, as one visit could feel off if the service or atmosphere isn't quite right that day.

Very good service and super friendly staff. Thank you to Amelia in particular who did everything to accommodate a fussy eater. Great waitress. Highly recommend this pub for family with kids and dogs
Walked in and the place looked dirty and dark on a bright sunny day it should be gleaming like a diamond seriously get your Cleaning act together
2) Ordered a medium roast dinner
And one small roast dinner
To be honest, the beef was so tough not even would consider giving it to my dog
You needed a chainsaw to cut through that beef
3) Vegetables or lack of them not very appealing
No mashed potato peas or broccoli
Roast potatoes and/Roast potatoes with skins on
Carrots and parsnips and carrots
Cauliflower cheese
And some sort of shredded cabbage
And red onion
And let’s not forget the Yorkshire pudding which not being funny was very small and spongy./Let’s speak about the gravy oh my God this was not gravy. This was some sort of brown weak mixture had no zest or flavour.
Did not even look like gravy it was that Water
Mind you, you get what you pay for for cheap and cheerful and nasty
Definitely will not not be returning
Lovely pub set back from the road in it's own large and well kept garden with plenty of outdoor tables and chairs. The bar has a good selectin of draft beers and also boasts an extensive menu of extremely good quality food. This is a lovely pub to visit on a hot and sunny day as the garden is a really nice suntrap.
The food was delicious and we didn’t have to wait long for it to arrive.
We were served by Amelia who was very friendly and accommodating and she made our dining experience lovely.
Popped to this venue as a family of 3 with two dogs for a bite to eat. Lovely indoor and outdoor seating areas. Plenty of parking and great value.
