About This Pub
Ah, the Old George Inn – it's one of those pubs that really captures the spirit of Newcastle, isn't it? From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, it's got this warm, welcoming vibe with staff who go above and beyond to make sure you're having a good time; think quick service, cheerful chats, and even stepping in as impromptu photographers for a girls' night out. The historical setting is a real highlight, giving it that authentic feel while offering a solid range of craft beers, cocktails, and tasty food that's perfect for watching the footy or enjoying a bottomless brunch in the beer garden. On the flip side, though, it does have its moments where the crowds and noise can overwhelm things, especially if you're popping in for a calm afternoon – one chap mentioned it was a bit too much with the DJ blasting away. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4.4, it's clear most people leave with a smile, so if you're up for a lively catch-up with friends, I'd say give it a go, but maybe steer clear if you're after something more low-key.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, attentive, and always ready with a smile, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got that wonderful historical charm, with a layout that's full of character and a real sense of Newcastle's past, which adds a lovely touch to your visit.
-
They've got a cracking selection of craft beers, cocktails, and food options, perfect for enjoying with mates while catching live sport or celebrating an occasion.
-
The beer garden looks like a great spot for soaking up the sun and atmosphere, especially during events or a bottomless brunch.
-
Overall, it's a lively place that's buzzing with energy, ideal for a fun night out or gathering with friends.
Cons
-
It can get incredibly busy and noisy at times, like on a Thursday afternoon with a DJ playing, which might not suit if you're after a quiet pint.
-
The food is decent but nothing to write home about for some – it's just alright, so you might not be blown away by the menu.
-
With the young crowd and high energy, it might not be the best choice if you're looking for a relaxed break rather than a lively scene.

Not one of my favourites but is decent. I’ve only ever had food from here once, it was just alright. I do like the layout of the building and particularly appreciate its history. Not sat in the beer garden yet but seems like a pretty good atmosphere.
Ben made our experience here the best!! Such a lovely guy always making sure we had everything we needed. Food was lovely too and all the staff :) not only did our drinks come on time but the staff were also the best photographers for our girls night out! highly recommend
The Old George Inn is a must-visit! The atmosphere is fantastic, with a real sense of history and charm. What truly makes this place special are the staff, especially Ross and Ben. They're incredibly friendly, always have a smile, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The beer selection is top-notch, and the overall vibe is perfect for a relaxed evening with friends. Highly recommend!"
Was not the best choice for our break. Very busy on a Thursday afternoon. Too noisy and a DJ blaring out music. Might be the oldest pub in Newcastle but a "young crowd." Quick pint and out.
We had a fabulous afternoon at the George. Everything was 5 star all round. Everyone else looked like they were enjoying themselves. I look forward to going again soon.
