About This Pub

Ah, Lady Grey's in Newcastle – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot if you're after a solid pint and a bit of banter. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the beer selection is absolutely brilliant; there's everything from classic draughts to interesting craft brews, and the staff often chip in with helpful tips or let you try a taster first, which is a lovely touch for anyone new to the scene. Pair that with some delicious cheese and charcuterie boards, and you've got yourself a proper cosy spot for a catch-up with mates. It's open late into the night, which is great for those spontaneous plans that run on. On the flip side, though, there have been a few grumbles about the staff not always being on form – like that time they reportedly refused service to a group, which sounds a bit off and could spoil an otherwise good night. Still, with such a high rating overall, it's clear most folks have a whale of a time, so I'd say it's worth giving it a go if you're in the area, just maybe keep things low-key to avoid any hitches. All in all, it's a gem with its ups and downs, like any good pub should be.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Fantastic selection of beers, with draught, cask, and craft options to suit every taste – perfect for exploring something new.
  • Friendly and helpful staff who offer great recommendations and even let you sample beers before committing to a pint, making it welcoming for newcomers.
  • Tasty food choices like cheese and charcuterie boards that pair brilliantly with a drink, ideal for a relaxed evening.
  • Warm, inclusive atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, especially if you're popping in for a chat or a social gathering.
  • Open until 3 AM every day, so it's spot on for a late-night catch-up or extending your night out in Newcastle.
Cons
  • Occasional poor staff attitude, like when they might turn away a larger group without much explanation, which can put a dampener on things.
  • It's tucked away a bit off the main streets, so you might have to hunt it out, which isn't ideal if you're in a rush or unfamiliar with the area.

Huge selection of draught beers. Had no idea what to get since it was my first time in a UK pub. Got weird, interesting and superb recommendations from the barkeeper and some local regulars. I was also able to try some of the beers before buying a whole pint.

Loved it Great choice of beers, and the cheese and charcuterie boards are very good. Good informative service. Enjoyed a couple of hours there.

Jim (man in the flat cap) made my night: nicest guy I’ve met in a long time I’m geordie pubs and I can’t wait to go back. Made me feel so welcome and bringing all my mates back in a few weeks for our football social.

Appalling attitude of the staff. I specifically held my leaving do from work here as we have had great night's there before. Some of my guests were denied service as there "were too many of us". We had sat off to the side and the bar staff occasionally had to walk past to go get ice or access the bar to clear glasses. We always made sure to let them past with no issue. Never in my life have I seen a bar give out so much that they were busy! Avoid at all costs.

Slightly off the main street but definitely worth finding if you like a wide beer selection including quite a few cask. There's a broad mix of good quality craft breweries and the mainstream stuff as well to suit most. I didn't try the food on this visit but they sounded like good grazing sharing options for another time. Old school no fuss decor. If you are in the centre looking for a good quality beer in friendly surroundings, this will serve you well
