About This Pub

Ah, the Narrowboat – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you once you pop in for a pint. Tucked away by the canal in North London, it's got this lovely, serene feel that makes you want to linger a bit longer, especially if you're out with mates or even your furry companion, as it's super dog-friendly. The staff are always up for a chat and seem genuinely chuffed to help, which really adds to the warm atmosphere – I hear they've pulled off some brilliant events, like weddings, with top-notch service and decorations. The food's mostly solid for a Young's spot, with options that pair nicely with a cold beer, but let's be honest, it's not going to blow your socks off; a few reviews mentioned it can be a bit hit or miss, like underwhelming fries or dishes that don't quite deliver on freshness. Still, the outdoor terrace is a highlight when the sun's out, though it might feel a smidge tight if the crowd builds up. All in all, it's a reliable choice for a casual get-together in Islington, but if you're after something extraordinary, you might want to temper your expectations – it's the simple pleasures here that shine through.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location by the canal is absolutely charming, with lovely balcony views that make it a perfect spot for a relaxing drink on a sunny day.
  • It's dog-friendly and has a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for unwinding with friends or even hosting special events like weddings.
  • The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks are generally reliable and hit the spot for a standard pub meal.
  • With outdoor seating on the terrace, it's a great place to enjoy the outdoors, especially when the weather's nice in Islington.
Cons
  • Some folks have mentioned the food can be a bit disappointing, like the fries lacking flavour or meals not feeling fresh enough.
  • The terrace is on the narrow side, which might make it feel a tad cramped if it gets busy.
  • It can get quite lively upstairs at times, so if you're after a quiet spot, you might need to head downstairs for more space.

Really disappointed!! The food was poor quality, lacked freshness and flavor. The fries were especially bad. Overall, the meal was quite unappetizing. The only positive was the terrace.

A quiet and peaceful pub by the river. The terrace is a bit narrow and has tables for four. There are two terraces. If you happen to be in Islington when the weather is nice, definitely stop by this pub, and it's dog-friendly☀️🐶💕

We booked the Narrowboat for our legal ceremony reception and wow, thank you so much Kamila and team for making it such a special day. The service, food, atmosphere and room were all amazing. Special thank you to Kamila for setting everything up and decorating the room for us before we arrived 🥹. Thank you thank you thank you! 🤍🤍

Amazing pub, found it on google whilst wandering through London on Friday 1-th April. Thoroughly recommend for amazing food and drinks, friendly staff and amazing balcony views. 100% will be back

Pretty standard Young’s pub overall. However, the location and building is very nice. Hidden away by the canal. The upstairs can be busy, but there is a good amount of seating downstairs. The food is pretty standard for what you would expect. In general, decent and reliable. The service here was great. Super helpful and friendly. This added to the warm and relaxed atmosphere of the place. Would definitely not have any reservations about coming back.
