About This Pub
Ah, Muriel's Cafe Bar – it's one of those places in Belfast that just draws you in with its charm. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the cocktails are a real highlight; folks rave about the espresso martini and the overall selection, making it a brilliant spot for a catch-up with mates over drinks. The staff often come across as genuinely friendly and attentive, which really adds to that warm, inviting feel, and the decor is spot on – think cool vibes with a playlist full of nostalgic 2000s and 2010s hits that gets everyone in the mood. Plus, it's ace for groups or private dos, with flexible spaces that keep things private yet connected to the action. On the menu side, there's a good variety, especially for veggies, so you're not left wanting. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – I've seen mentions of drinks not being poured properly, like a half-full glass that left someone feeling short-changed, and the service isn't always as cheerful as you'd hope, with one account of a rather frosty interaction. The location on a main road can make it feel a tad hectic rather than serene, and little issues like the state of the facilities might catch you out. Overall, though, with a solid 4.4 rating, it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The cocktails are absolutely fantastic – I've heard the espresso martini is a must-try, and the overall drinks menu seems spot on.
-
The staff are generally lovely and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
It's got a brilliant vibe with amazing decor and a cool playlist of 2000s and 2010s tunes that really sets the mood.
-
Plenty of options for everyone, including tasty vegetarian dishes like that blue cheese sauce with grilled eggs and veggies – perfect if you're after something meat-free.
-
Great for private parties or groups, with options to partition off areas while still keeping access to the main bar.
Cons
-
Some drinks might not live up to expectations, like that half-full cocktail issue – a bit disappointing when you're paying for it.
-
Service can be hit or miss; one person mentioned an unfriendly response from staff, which could put a dampener on your night.
-
The location on a busy road means it's not the most relaxing spot, especially compared to somewhere like the main square.
-
Facilities aren't always up to scratch, such as missing toilet seats – small things, but they can add up.

Half a cocktail, if it wasn't expensive enough for a cocktail the thing wasn't even full....the least that you could expect. I queried it with the bargirl who said "it's a bigger than usual glass" expertly delivered with the most unfriendly outlook I've seen in quite a while..... I won't be returning and I couldn't recommend this place to anyone...
Indoor/ outdoor seating. It's on a road, so not as calming as the main square. The inside is lovely. There's facilities but no toilet seats.
The staff are really lovely and welcoming and the menu is vaste, personally as a vegetarian I love the blue cheese sauce with grilled eggs and vegetables, for meat eater there is a piggy platter. Which they also make as a sharer.
There's also some ice creams and desserts on order the fruit cheese cakes looks amazing.
And plenty of great sights on the road that Marie's is based on, worth a visit.
Great venue for a private party. Partitioned off for Privacy, whilst still providing access to the main bar.
An absolute gem of a place . We did an impromptu trip up from Dublin to see a band we love and saw last night at the Olympia, remembered here from a previous visit and so pleased we did. Amazing decor, fantastic cocktails - although don't see why you have loads staff swanning about and not taking drinks orders, that's annoying.
Food was fine, bit cool, tasty.
But for drinks and atmosphere and general all round fabulousness, this can't be beaten.
Lovely cocktails (recommend the espresso martini), and a very cool bar in general. Love the vibe, and the 2000/2010s playlist they had playing is class. New favourite bar in Belfast!
