About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Cloth Ear, it's one of those places in Belfast that just feels like a hidden gem for a good night out. It's got this lovely mix of old-school Victorian heritage and a fresh, modern feel that makes the space really inviting – ideal for sinking into a booth and chatting away with mates over a drink or two. The food stands out as a real highlight; they've got seasonal, local produce that shines in dishes like the beef and ale pie or fish and chips, which I've heard is top-notch from those who've tried it. Pair that with an inventive drinks list full of classics and fun twists, and you're set for a cracking evening. The team there are dead helpful too, always making sure everything runs smoothly. On the downside, it's not the cheapest spot – things can add up quickly, so it might not be your go-to for a budget-friendly pint. Plus, the menu doesn't have a massive selection, which could be a shame if you're after more options or something a bit more extraordinary. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal and a laugh, but keep those points in mind if you're planning a visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on, with standout dishes like the fish and chips that folks rave about – it's hearty and full of flavour using fresh, local ingredients.
  • It has a warm and lively atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, blending Victorian charm with a modern twist for a proper cosy vibe.
  • The drinks menu is inventive and exciting, mixing classic options with clever innovations that really get the conversation going.
  • The staff are friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and great service to make your visit enjoyable.
  • Its location in the heart of Belfast is brilliant, making it easy to pop in after exploring the city.
Cons
  • It's a bit on the pricey side, so you might think twice if you're watching your wallet, especially for meals like fish and chips at around £19.
  • The menu is fairly limited, which could leave you wanting more variety if you're in the mood for something different.
  • Some dishes are good but not mind-blowing, so it might not wow everyone looking for that extra special touch.

I recently had a meal here when celebrating my friend's birthday. Really very good, if a little pricey. I enjoyed the fish and chips and sorbet and my friends enjoyed their food also. The fish and chips was £19 or so, a little pricey but it was lovely. The menu said peas but didn't specify mushy. There was also a service charge that we weren't aware of. I actually forgot to ask if it's optional and just paid it. Very attentive staff. Highly recommended!

Exceptionally good food! This place is a real find! Limited menu but what they do is very very good. Beef and ale pie - as good as it gets. Chicken supreme - delicious Side of hand cooked chips - to die for! You will not be disappointed

A gorgeous restaurant with absolutely delicious food and yummy cocktails! We were looking for somewhere comfortable to have a chill late lunch and this place ticks every box! Nice and comfortable table booth and friendly staff! We had a main each and entree to share. We both ended up choosing the house chicken curry and a vegetable special of the day curry and they were both super tasty! We also really enjoyed going through varieties of the espresso martini on the menu. The classic, the Belfast brew, the tiramisu! All of them were amazing! The sticky date toffee pudding was a perfect dessert to end the meal with! I also really love all the old pictures and clothes decorating the place, it added nice charming details to it! Clean and spacious bathroom!
