About This Pub

Ah, By The River Brew Co., what a gem it is down by the Tyne in Gateshead – I've got to say, it's one of those places that just draws you in with its peaceful riverside setting and that easy-going atmosphere. Picture yourself sipping on a cold beer or enjoying a proper brunch like avocado on sourdough, all while soaking up the views of the bridges; it's no wonder people rave about it with that 4.4 rating. The food scene is a real highlight too, with options from Indian street food to Greek delights, and it's all brought right to your table via a handy app – though, fair warning, that app might trip you up a bit at first. On the flip side, it's not all smooth sailing; the beers are a touch expensive, clocking in at around £7 a pint, and the selection doesn't have as much variety as you'd expect, especially if you're after something truly local. Plus, if it's just the outside bar running, you might end up with drinks in plastic cups, which takes away from the fancy feel. All in all, it's a top pick for a relaxed catch-up with mates, as long as you're okay with splashing out a little and keeping things simple.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is absolutely spot on, right by the river with stunning views of the bridges – perfect for a scenic pint or coffee on a sunny day.
  • It's got a really relaxed and chilled vibe, with great weather making it even better for sitting outside and unwinding.
  • They offer a nice selection of food from various outlets, like tasty Indian street food or a classic Parmo, which adds a fun variety to your visit.
  • The staff are friendly and helpful, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
  • With a solid 4.4 rating, it's clear folks appreciate the overall atmosphere and the quality of drinks and eats on offer.
Cons
  • Drinks can be on the pricey side, like £7 for a pint, which might make you think twice if you're planning a long session.
  • The beer selection is a bit limited, especially for a place that's all about brews – not as many local options as you'd hope.
  • Sometimes it's just the outside bar in action, and everything comes in plastic cups, which isn't quite as nice as proper glassware.
  • The app for ordering food can be a tad confusing, which might frustrate you if you're trying to sort out your meal quickly.

The beer is expensive (£7 a pint). Otherwise it was very chill. It was getting busier as well left at 6 pm but while we were there the music and the weather was very relaxed. We loved our Parmo from "Parm-o-rama"

Very nice place on the water, between the bridges. Relaxt atmos. The weather was nice, so sitting outside was great. Nice beers on tap outside, not much choice and none local. There is a food court where you can order with a QR code, and the food will be brought to your table. We had Indian, Greek food and a Meatstack burger. All very good!

Lovely spot under the Tyne bridge for coffee and brunch, I had the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and it was lovely, a nice spice to it, great crunch bread, the coffee and chilled atmosphere was fabulous too, friendly helpful staff too, great spot and also worth the scenic walk across the Tyne to get to

Popped in here for a pre dinner drink. Great location right on the river. Only the outside bar was operating. Because it's outside the drinks are served in plastic cups. Found it more expensive than the pubs, 20 pounds for 2 pints of beer and a gin and tonic.

Fab location with great selection of food outlets. We tried a couple and would highly recommend Dabbawal Indian street food! Point to improve: It’s on the expensive side (£7 a pint), the beer selection is small considering its a tap location and the app confusing. Didn’t take away from awesome location and fab food/drink atmosphere would defo recommend 😄
