About This Pub
Ah, Lock and Quay, what a gem tucked away in Gateshead! I have to say, chatting about this place feels like sharing a pint with you lot over a good laugh. The standout for me is that terrace with its breathtaking views of Newcastle – it's one of those spots where you can just sit back, soak in the scenery, and feel the world melt away. The food's a winner too; they've got fresh, in-house options that hit the spot, especially for Sunday lunches or those 2-4-1 burger deals, and it's clear from the buzz that families and groups enjoy it without any bother. Then there's the service – honestly, it's the real deal, with staff who are genuinely cheerful and on point, making every visit feel personal and warm. Being dog-friendly adds that extra layer of appeal; it's just nice knowing you can bring your four-legged friend along for the ride. On the flip side, though, the grub can be a tad average at times – nothing to write home about, more 'reliable' than 'remarkable'. And with hours kicking off around noon and ending fairly early, it might not be the go-to for a proper night out. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that does the basics brilliantly and then some, so if you're in the area, I'd say give it a try for that mix of good times and great views – you won't regret it!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The views from the terrace are absolutely stunning, offering a unique perspective of Newcastle across the Tyne – it's perfect for a relaxing pint on a sunny day.
-
The food is freshly cooked in-house with quality ingredients, and from what I've heard, the Sunday lunches are spot on, especially the meat which folks rave about.
-
Service is top-notch; the staff, like Megan, are cheerful, attentive, and really make you feel welcome, which is a breath of fresh air these days.
-
It's wonderfully dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your furry mate without any fuss, adding a nice homely touch.
-
They've got a great selection of classic cocktails, premium drinks, and even options for events or private functions, making it versatile for all sorts of gatherings.
Cons
-
The food might not blow you away every time; it's solid and as expected, but not always exceptional, like one chap mentioned it was 'not bad' rather than outstanding.
-
Operating hours seem a bit limited, typically starting around midday and wrapping up by evening, so it might not suit late-night outings.
-
With its location on the Quayside, parking could be a hassle in that area, though that's just the nature of the spot.

Lovely wee spot. Nice position with great views over tyne. Food was as expected. Not bad. The highlight was definitely the customer service by Megan. She was superb. On the ball. Nice manner. Cheerful. It's rare to get such good service nowadays. A credit to the company. Due to her service we will be back. Cheers 🍻
Went in for Sunday lunch and food was very nice, plenty of seating inside with seating outside with lovely view of river and bridges, definitely worth a visit.
Stopped in for a pint as it was I nice day. Friendly staff. Wide range of drinks. They do food and have a pool table. An outside terrace area for when the weather is good.
Ive been twice now. Once for Sunday lunch with my family and also for 241 burgers on a Tuesday with the girls. Both times I've been really impressed with the food and the service.
The meat on the Sunday lunch was some of the best I've ever had. We felt at ease with the kids just being themselves too. Some places we don't feel so welcome when they're a bit loud -but not here, it was really chilled! Grandparents were impressed with the lovely river views too.
I'd definitely recommend ordering something with chips. I can't get over how good they were.
Visited today for Sunday lunch, on the gateshead side of the quayside just over from the swing bridge. Lovely new pub/restaurant with very friendly staff, it's also dog friendly. We ordered a beef and gammon dinner- really good portion sizes and happy to customise (we didn't want certain veg). It was £16.95 and totally worth it for lovely tender meat, fluffy roasties and creamy mash. Couldn't fault a single thing on this dinner!!
