About This Pub
Ah, the King William IV – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of Hampstead, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got this inviting feel with walls packed full of portraits, making it feel like a proper local gem. The staff stand out as the real stars; they're chatty, warm, and go out of their way to make your visit memorable, which is just what you want after a long day. Plus, the drink deals are spot on – happy hour every day means you can enjoy house doubles or a cheeky pint without breaking the bank, and the live music nights add a lovely touch of excitement, whether it's an open mic or a piano sing-along. Oh, and don't miss the Sunday roasts; they sound like a proper treat with all the trimmings. But, and I say this with a bit of caution, there was that one review about food poisoning from the prawns, which is a shame and makes me think twice about the kitchen's consistency. If you're eyeing up the rooms for a stay, they're in a great spot but a bit on the snug side, with the toilet feeling a squeeze – fine for a quick overnight, but maybe not for a relaxed getaway. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a laugh, as long as you go in with your eyes open to the occasional slip-up. I'd say it's worth popping in for the vibe, just pair it with a reliable backup plan for eats!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
The atmosphere is spot on, with walls covered in over 100 portraits giving it that cosy, maximalist vibe that's perfect for a proper Hampstead hangout.
-
They've got brilliant drink deals every day, like house doubles for £7 and pints from £5.60, plus happy hour vibes all week long.
-
Live music nights are a real treat, from open mic Mondays to piano sing-alongs on Thursdays – it's a fun spot for some impromptu entertainment.
-
The Sunday roasts sound delicious, with options like veggie Wellington or beef, served with all the trimmings, and it's one of their busiest days for good reason.
Cons
-
There was a nasty incident with food poisoning from the King Prawns in one review, which is a bit worrying and could put you off ordering certain dishes.
-
If you're thinking of staying in the rooms, they're on the small side and the toilet might feel a tad cramped, so it's not ideal for a longer stay.
-
They didn't handle that food issue brilliantly in the review, only offering a free drink instead of a full refund, which left a sour taste.
-
No specific operating hours are listed, which might make it tricky to plan a visit without double-checking first.

Food poisoning:
I ordered the King Prawns they were cold and dry and I had eaten two and started to feel nauseous so I sent them back, then I later got food poisoning from them. When I was at the pub they did not refund me for the dish and only offered a free drink. Considering how unwell I was I expect a full refund for the £9 prawns that made me very unwell and the free drink should just be a gesture of good will.
Fantastic service! Lovely atmosphere and staff. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. One of the best pubs in London. Isma was lovely and provided fantastic service! Definitely a pub not to be missed. Great staff.
Finally popped in! Its a very cool pub. The staff are lovely, decors great & the locals are really funny & nice too! I shall return for a roast sometime :)
Visiting family in the area who recommended King William IV on Hampstead High Street. Was served by lovely barmaid Eva who was lovely and chatty and warm. Thursday’s after 8:30pm the pub hosts a pianist which was a lovely surprise. Will definitely be coming back next time with friends and family. Kid and dog friendly too! Perfect for fur babies and real babies😂😂
Excellent location! The room was a bit small and the toilet a squeeze but we didn't mind.Even though it's above a pub we couldn't hear any noise ..maybe just a bit on the weekend from outside the window. Lots of pubs and cafes just a few minutes walk and the underground is literally less than a two minute walk. The servers in the pub were very friendly. They do have live music on certain days. I would definitely stay again!
