About This Pub
Ah, The Horseshoe in Hampstead – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in the leafy streets. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the Sunday roasts are where it really shines; folks rave about the tender chicken or beef, served up with generous helpings and all the trimmings that make you feel right at home. Pair that with a welcoming, cosy atmosphere that's ideal for a relaxed chat over drinks, and you've got a place that draws in the crowds for good reason. The service gets a big thumbs up too – quick and cheerful, which always makes a difference on a busy day. But let's keep it real; a couple of mates have pointed out that the meat can sometimes be a bit fatty or that the gravy doesn't quite flow as freely as you'd hope, so it might not hit the mark every single time. Still, with that solid 4.3 rating, it's a reliable choice if you're in the area for a bite and a bevvy – I'd say give it a go and see for yourself!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The Sunday roasts are an absolute treat – generous portions, beautifully cooked meat, and all the classic trimmings like a massive Yorkshire pud make for a proper hearty meal.
-
The atmosphere is warm and cosy, with a relaxed vibe that's perfect for catching up with friends over a pint.
-
Service is spot on; the staff are friendly and efficient, adding to that welcoming local feel.
-
There's a great selection of drinks, including cold beers that hit the spot after a wander around Hampstead.
Cons
-
Some dishes, like the roast, might need a bit more gravy to really shine, as a few have mentioned.
-
The meat can occasionally have too much fat or connective tissue, which might put off those wanting something leaner.
-
Portions are on the generous side, so if you're after something lighter, it could feel a tad overwhelming.

Tucked away in the charming streets of Hampstead, The Horseshoe Pub delivers a Sunday roast that hits all the right notes. We tried both the roast chicken and roast beef — generous portions, beautifully cooked, and served with all the trimmings you’d hope for (including a massive Yorkshire pud).
Starters were equally satisfying: the spicy chicken had a proper kick, the croquettes were crispy perfection, and the rest of the small plates set the tone for a hearty meal. Service was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and the buzzing atmosphere — a mix of locals, families, and pub lovers — gave it that classic Hampstead charm.
Definitely a spot to return to, especially when you’re craving a proper roast done right.
We came to enjoy the Sunday Roast as our final meal before heading back to the States—and it did not disappoint! This is truly a meal worth savoring. Be sure to make a reservation!
We shared the roast since the portion is quite generous for one person. The meat was tender, the bread was incredible, and the gravy… let’s just say it hit the spot—something us Southerners definitely crave. I think we may have sopped up every last drop!
From the warm welcome to settling the check, the entire experience was smooth and memorable.
Decent pub in Hamstead with good selection of drinks and good food. Had the Sunday roast which needed more gravy but was good overall.
The meat however, had a lot of fat and connective tissue which I was not a fan of. I also got the longustine special which was new for me and tasted like good prawns.
We recently visited Hampstead and decided to stop by The Horseshoe for a couple of pints and some nibbles. The decor and ambience were warm and cosy, creating a relaxed vibe. It was clear that the place is popular with locals, which added to its charm.
We ordered the fried chicken and the triple-cooked fries with alioli. The fried chicken was excellent—I would have happily ordered another round if I’d had more time. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even better.
While the prices were a bit higher than your average pub, it’s understandable given that we were in Hampstead, one of the most expensive postcodes. Considering the high quality of the food, I’d say it was well worth it.
Definitely a place I’d recommend if you’re in the area!
