About This Pub

Ah, Johnson Arms, what a lovely spot it is in Dunkirk, Nottingham – I've got to say, it's one of those places that just feels right for a casual pint or a family outing. From what I've seen in the reviews, folks are raving about the friendly staff who go the extra mile to suggest beers that'll suit your fancy, and the selection on tap is spot on, with something for everyone. The pizzas sound like a winner too, all homemade and delicious, paired perfectly with the drinks. And let's not forget that beer garden at the back – it's a real highlight, especially when the sun's out or even on chillier nights with the heaters kicking in; it's got that outdoor charm that makes you want to linger. They've got live music and events that bring a bit of excitement, and with games on offer, it's easy to while away an afternoon. On the flip side, the website's a bit of a faff with access errors, so you might struggle to get the lowdown online before you go. It can be quiet now and then, which is nice for a peaceful chat but not ideal if you're in the mood for a packed house. Plus, with it listed as closed just now, it's probably wise to confirm they're open to avoid any surprises. All in all, it's a cracking pub with a 4.4 rating that shows it's doing most things right, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a try for a proper, down-to-earth experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and spot on with recommendations for beers based on what you're after.
  • A cracking selection of drinks on tap, including some top-notch beers that cater to all tastes.
  • The pizzas are a real treat; they're tasty and homemade, making it a great spot for a bite with your pint.
  • The beer garden out back is a gem, especially in the summer – it's spacious, has heaters for cooler evenings, and feels like a proper hidden oasis.
  • They've got live music and events like festivals that add a fun vibe, plus games to keep things lively.
Cons
  • The website seems to be playing up with some access issues, which might make it tricky if you're trying to check menus or events online beforehand.
  • It can be a bit quiet at times, so if you're after a buzzing atmosphere every visit, you might find it more relaxed than lively.
  • With the operating status showing as closed at the moment, it's worth double-checking if they're open before heading over, just to avoid any disappointment.

Popped in with the family the other day when they had a music festival on and was really impressed with the bands and, more importantly, the beers on offer. Staff were great and really helpful when advising which beers I'd like - based on my preferences. All in all a well decent boozer with a lovely beer garden!

Positively surprised with the pizza! Very good! Relaxed environment, not busy the last time I visited the place, discreet choices of beers and there is a big beer garden, it might get busy sometimes during the organised events
