About This Pub

Oh, you know, I had a wander into the Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port the other day, and it really left me with a smile – it's one of those places that feels like a breath of fresh air amidst the hustle. The staff are just gems; they're so approachable and eager to help, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or sorting out a birthday bash with thoughtful extras like free drinks. It's spot on for families too, with everyone from reception to the bar making you feel right at home. That said, it's not your typical rowdy pub – more of a calm hotel spot, so if you're chasing that vibrant energy, it might not quite hit the mark. And honestly, while it's clean and comfortable, it's fairly straightforward without any fancy frills, which suits some but not others. All in all, if you're after good company and a reliable pint in a hassle-free setting, it's worth a go, but do keep an eye on whether it's open, as that could throw a spanner in the works.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're friendly, helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, whether it's for a quick stop or a special occasion.
  • It's a top spot for celebrations; they throw in lovely touches like free drink tokens for birthdays, which really adds a nice surprise to your visit.
  • Family-friendly vibes all around, with staff being approachable and accommodating, even with little ones in tow, making it a relaxed choice for a get-together.
  • The facilities are clean and straightforward, offering a comfortable space that's perfect for a casual drink or a bite after a long day.
Cons
  • It might feel a bit more like a hotel bar than a buzzing traditional pub, so if you're after that lively, chatty atmosphere, it could come across as a tad quiet.
  • The amenities are pretty basic – it's not the height of luxury, more suited to a straightforward, no-fuss experience rather than something extravagant.
  • With the operating status seeming a bit unclear, you might want to double-check before heading over, just to avoid any disappointment if things aren't running as expected.

Perfect experience! My partner and I stayed here for 1 night for my birthday and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The gentleman on the reception desk was very friendly (unfortunately can't remember his name) upon finding out it was my birthday he gave us 2 free drink tokens, so that was a lovely surprise. We stayed in an accessible room and it was great, a lovely wet room and all the facilities were disabled-friendly. We went down for dinner that evening and the meal was really nice, and then I received yet another fabulous surprise. They didn't charge me for my chocolate brownie and they decorated it with happy birthday writing, very thoughtful. The breakfast the next morning was tasty and had lots of variety, many different pastries, cereals, yoghurts and juices along with the cooked breakfast too. All of the staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly and helpful and always smiling. Overall we've had a fantastic stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you to all of you :)

I can't speak highly enough about here. We hired a function room for my wife Lynn's birthday with an overnight stay and it couldn't have gone better. Jordan was brilliant and kept us updated throughout, while he worked his magic. Every member of staff incl the receptionist's, the server's and bar staff couldn't have been nicer. Our room was bright, airy & very comfortable, with a lovely view overlooking the canal. The food is also top notch and good value. We can't recommend here enough and can't wait to return. Thank you everyone 👏👏🙌🙌

4 or 5 stars. Do stars tell the whole story? The Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port is not the Ritz-Carlton. It is a nice hotel for lower & middle income people. They have car parking right at the hotel just like in the good old USA. I am from America and most Holiday Inns in the US offer basic amenities like in room refrigerator, facial tissue, ... I noticed that is not the case in the UK regardless of price. This hotel does not offer in room refrigeration, but in the lobby on the ground floor the bar offers free ice. They have drinking glasses adjacent to the ice bowl and you can help yourself to all the ice you need without asking for hotel service. Americans are strange. When I want ice I should get it myself. My bathroom had a damp, wet rag smell. The shower curtain was damaged and should be replaced. To minimize the wet-rag odor I just used a towel to wipe off the shower curtain and make my room odor free. They do not laundry service. My room was on the top floor and I had a good view of the Boat Museum, Manchester Ship Canal, Petrol Tanks, Coal-Fire Power Plant, and Wind Turbines. I came to Ellesmere Port to see the Boat museum and understand its significance. It reinforced some ideas I had already learned from my travels throughout the West Midlands. Markets work much more efficiently when cost-effective transportation is available for people and heavy freight. No matter what the politicians in Parliament and the public believe the truth is the whole world depends on fossil fuel. All the lies about "climate change, green energy, zero carbon by 2030" is politically correctness gone mad. The politicians and press of the "Free-Western World" are lying to their public. With all the taxpayer money spent on wind turbines, solar cells, ... It is natural gas, petrol, diesel (powers the Britain's 2 Elizabeth II-Class Aircraft Carriers), good old COAL, and other fossil fuels that powers our industrial trading system. For me Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port gave me an opportunity to see that. Plus I enjoyed my meals in their restaurant so I would come to Holiday Inn Ellesmere Port again. I give them 4 stars when compared to the Ritz-Carlton as a hotel, but 5 stars for helping me understand the West Midland.

Stayed here last night with my husband & twin babies. From the word go, the staff were fantastic. They were so friendly, helpful & approachable. This applied to every staff member we met, from reception, to waiting staff, bar staff, housekeeping & even security (they had a few security people there due to a large wedding). We were very tired & stressed due to travelling a long distance with 6 month old babies, & losing a very important bag along the way. But the staff nevertheless made our stay very comfortable & enjoyable. Thank you to all the staff!!🙏😊

I happen to be in the area after delivering a vehicle to its new owner. I had been on the road since 3am and needed to use a toilet. I had the pleasure of meeting James at the front desk who was so friendly and accommodating and allowed me to use a toilet. I spotted the restaurant and stayed for breakfast! This is an example of first class professional service resulting in money being spent in the establishment! Many thanks once again to James.
