About This Pub

Ah, Hartwood Hall – it's one of those pubs that really grows on you once you step inside. From what I've gathered, the team there are absolute gems; they're quick with a smile and make you feel like you're catching up with old mates, which is just what you want after a long day. The food's a highlight too – think juicy steaks cooked to perfection, fresh burgers that hit the spot, and even some delightful desserts that had folks raving. It's got that warm, welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a family meal or a chilled drink in the beer garden when the weather's playing nice. Plus, with handy perks like being dog-friendly and having a car park, it's dead easy to pop in. But, let's keep it real, it's not all roses; some dishes can be a bit underwhelming, like that steak sandwich that didn't quite impress, and the decor's showing its age in spots with wobbly tables that might spoil the mood. Service is friendly enough, but it doesn't always feel engaging beyond the basics, so you might end up wishing for a bit more chat. Overall, it's a great choice for a casual get-together in Chorley, especially if you're after good value and a laid-back vibe, but just temper your expectations for the finer details – it's got the heart in the right place, and that's what counts for a proper pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always up for a chat and making you feel right at home.
  • The food hits the spot with some cracking options like the Camembert cheese, perfectly cooked steak, and fresh burgers – plenty of choices to satisfy everyone.
  • It's got a lovely atmosphere, whether you're popping in for a quick lunch or settling in for the evening, with a great beer garden for those sunny days.
  • Family-friendly vibes mean it's ideal for a relaxed outing with the little ones, and it's even dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry mate along.
  • Convenient facilities like free WiFi, a car park, and its location near attractions make it easy to visit without any hassle.
Cons
  • Some dishes can be a bit hit or miss – like the steak sandwich that left one person disappointed, so it might not always live up to expectations.
  • The decor could do with a spruce-up in places, with things like wobbly tables that can put a damper on the experience.
  • Service is polite, but it doesn't always go the extra mile; you might not get much interaction beyond ordering, which can feel a tad impersonal at times.
  • A few meals were described as just average, so if you're after something truly outstanding, it might not quite deliver every time.

Popped in for lunch. The Camembert cheese was delicious but the other two mains were pretty average. Staff were friendly and helpful.

This was a last minute thing, booked online an hour prior to arriving. Bar staff & waitresses very friendly, had a laugh with the 2 that dealt with me & my mate. The Guinness was lovely! The food was absolutely delicious! Squid cooked perfectly, the Steak on my meal was cooked to perfection! This is definitely the best Greene King i’d been to! Will be going again with the Wife soon! Had an error with my Bill, they put 2 drinks on that i hadn’t ordered, but this was sorted without fuss. Oh yeah, i must add…. The Peppercorn Sauce is a MUST!!!! It was amazeballs!! 🥵

Nice little pub, the grilled gammon was a good size and juicy 😋. Service was friendly and the food didn't take too long to come after ordering. The little one enjoyed the Mac n Cheese. Deserts were good. Some of the decor needs a bit of tidying up, our wobbly table was a bit of pain. All in all I'd go back for another meal. The turn into the carpark is basically straight off the roundabout, so take your time as I missed it 1st time round 🤣

Me and Husband came here last Friday night and had a great time. The atmosphere was great and the staff were so welcoming (to name John and Gabby, as they served us) We had a hot honey, crispy chicken burger each, and they were fresh and cooked to perfection, presented really well and we'll definitely be coming back for another! The chef that night was Lydia (we were told) so a great mention for her.

Popped in for lunch to Hartwood Hall as I've been before and didn't really have an opinion on the place but this time I was really disappointed with the food. The staff were polite but apart from when ordering there was no there interactions with them. I ordered the steak sandwich and I wasn't impressed, the steak clearly wasn't freshly cooked and was dry, it came with some beef dripping gravy but I must of misunderstood the description because I barely got a dripping of it.. barely enough to dip anything into. I paid extra for "loaded fries" with cheese and bacon... I'm sure I seen a slither of bacon in there somewhere... I'm sure of it. My partner had thesteak and ale pie but the crust was so tough it couldn't be eaten. My little one had pizza and it was so soft and soggy I couldn't even cut it without it turning into a sloppy mess. Overall I paid £40 for lunch and wasn't impressed, it wasn't particularly busy, just seemed like that's the standard of food. I've tried to be as honest as possible in this review and not overly critical but... I won't be returning.
