About This Pub
Ah, The Sir Henry Tate – it's one of those classic Wetherspoon pubs that you can always rely on for a straightforward, no-nonsense experience in Chorley. I have to say, the real draw here is the wallet-friendly prices; grabbing a traditional breakfast or a pint doesn't cost the earth, which makes it perfect for a casual catch-up or a quick bite after shopping. The food can be really spot on when it's good – think spicy pizzas or hearty fish and chips that leave you feeling chuffed – and the staff are just lovely, always up for a chat and making sure everything runs smoothly. Upstairs, it's a bit more relaxed with those large windows letting in plenty of light, ideal for settling in with mates. On the flip side, it's a shame about the times when the food doesn't quite hit the mark, like when the chicken's not cooked through or the sides are a bit dry and disappointing. Plus, I've heard a few grumbles about smaller portions and the odd instance of smoking indoors, which can put a damper on things, especially for families. All in all, it's a solid choice if you're after an affordable pint and a meal without the fuss, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to avoid any letdowns.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The prices are spot on for a budget-friendly outing – you can get a full breakfast for under a fiver, which is brilliant value.
-
The food hits the mark with tasty options like hot chicken pizza and fish and chips; it's proper satisfying grub.
-
Staff are always friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The atmosphere upstairs is lovely, with big windows and a bit more peace for a relaxed chat with friends.
Cons
-
Food quality can be hit or miss, with some reports of undercooked items like chicken or dry, hard mash that doesn't quite live up to expectations.
-
Portion sizes feel a bit skimpy at times, leaving you wanting a touch more for your money.
-
There have been issues with people vaping or smoking inside, which can be off-putting, especially if you're there with little ones.
-
Wait times for food might drag on longer than you'd hope, even for straightforward orders.

Visited for lunch yesterday. Fairly busy Saturday afternoon. I had the new Hot chicken pizza. Very spicy and tasty. Had a pint of Wobbly Bob wasn't at it's best. Change to a different beer which was nice.
Bread was stiff chicken wasn’t cooked mash was hard and dry and they don’t even do gravy to cancel out how bad it is and the portion sizes are horrible peas were hard people vaping and smoking inside on the top floor while there are babies and toddlers around and don’t get me started on the swearing people were shouting while swearing horrible place don’t come save your money and your body!
a very good place for friends gathering, £2.99 for traditional breakfast, + hot drinks £1.71 .
you must find a good space for you and your friends in these 2 stories cafe. I definitely prefer upper floor for a bit silence. Sitting besides the Large glass window seats are very comfortable and relaxing though the day i visited is cloudy. i strongly believe it’s even better in a sunny warm weather.
Visited for quick lunch and drink with my family. The atmosphere was great, staff were very friendly and the food was very nice. Kids gave their pizza and chicken nuggets 4.5 out of 5. My fish and chips was lovely. Prices doe everything really reasonable.
Great place to stop in for a nice meal and few drinks. They do ulimitied top ups to tea/hot chocolate and coffee so a great place to go for a catch up with friends as well.
Definitely make an effort to pop in here more often.
Visited while on our stay in Chorley. It is in a lovely newly regenerated area of the town and is situated near shops with the Flat Iron Car park the closet to. A big spoons once inside on 2 floors. Ordered our breakfast. Waited longer than normal and it arrived and as always is as delicious as always. Lots of seating areas on both floors. There is a lift so disabled access is catered for. A nice spoons with a relaxed atmosphere. The only problem is the parking as you are kind of forced to pay for daytime parking and with it being a 'short stay' you only get 2 hours but at £1 you can't complain. It is free to park after 5pm. Not a bad spoons at all and worth a visit if in Chorley
