About This Pub
Ah, The Astley Village Inn in Chorley – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its welcoming feel and a solid lineup of drinks, ideal for a casual get-together. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are usually chuffed to see you and go out of their way to make things pleasant, especially if you've got the little ones or even a furry friend in tow. The menu's a real winner too, packed with options that cater to all tastes, and when the food hits the mark, it's genuinely tasty and satisfying. But, and there's always a but, isn't there? Some folks have had a rough time with waits that stretch on forever for meals or drinks, which can kill the mood quicker than a rainy bank holiday. Then there's the odd horror story about food that's not quite right – think watery sauces or downright unappetising bits – and service that doesn't always bounce back from complaints. Overall, with a solid 4.4 rating from heaps of reviews, it's clear this place has its charms, but I'd say it's best for a low-key visit where you're not in a rush, and maybe skip the food if you're after something foolproof. If you're popping by, keep your expectations in check and you'll likely have a decent time – after all, it's all about that pub atmosphere, innit?
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking selection of drinks, perfect for unwinding with mates after a long day.
-
The atmosphere is spot on for a relaxed catch-up with friends or family – it's cosy and inviting.
-
The menu is massive with loads of options, so there's something for everyone, and it's great for families with kids.
-
It's dog-friendly, which is a lovely touch if you're out for a walk and fancy a pit stop.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit-and-miss, with long waits for drinks and food that sometimes leave you twiddling your thumbs.
-
Food quality isn't always up to scratch – we've heard tales of inedible dishes and things like black salad leaves, which is a real letdown.
-
Customer service falls short at times, like when orders take ages or staff aren't quick to sort out complaints.
-
Even with a quiet pub, things can drag on, making what should be a quick visit feel like a marathon.
-
Prices might seem reasonable, but if the experience doesn't live up to it, you could end up feeling short-changed.

We’ve always enjoyed visiting The Astley Village pub for its friendly atmosphere and good selection of drinks. The staff are generally welcoming, and it’s a nice spot to relax with friends or family. However, on our last visit, we experienced a frustrating wait of about an hour for our meals, which unfortunately meant we had to leave before eating. It was disappointing, but we understand that busy times can sometimes lead to delays.
Despite that, we believe in giving places a second chance, so we’re hoping the pub has addressed these issues and improved their service. The location and vibe of the pub are great, and when things run smoothly, it’s an enjoyable experience. We’re optimistic about returning soon to see if the food service is back up to the standard we’ve come to expect.
All in all, The Astley Village pub has potential, and we’re willing to try again and hopefully enjoy a better experience next time. Fingers crossed!

Used to come here quite often for Sunday dinner and up until now it was ok. Was very disappointed in the service. Drinks took ages to come out. Me and my partner had the carvery and my son had a hamburger they said the hamburger would take 5 minutes. After nearly 20 minutes my partner had to go ask for his food and it was straight out the kitchen like it was forgot about. And to top it off all out drink glasses where dirty with lipstick on them. Showed this to the lady and she wasn't bothered. Will be our last time here unfortunately.
We popped in during a visit to Astley Park and were really impressed! The menu is absolutely massive, with so much to choose from. The staff were friendly and really patient with our children, which made a big difference. It’s dog-friendly too, a great bonus for us. The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were huge! Disney music was playing in the background, which added to the lovely, relaxed atmosphere. There were 10 of us in total, and every single one of us enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend!
Disgusting inedible food. Waste of time & money, place was dead quiet (no surprise). Literally no customer service at all, took a while for our order to be took and just as long to take our dirty plates away. Bearing in mind there were only 4 tables of people. When we told the waitress the food wasn't good she didn't say anything not even an apology. Wasn't asked if the food was okay whilst we was eating either because if they did we would have sent the food back to the kitchen. Did end up getting half off which was appreciated but considering I went to maccies after as I was starving isn't something you set out to do when you book a meal. Won't be going again which is a shame because it used to be really good.
1 main complaint my salad leaf was black in places. Paid £70 for 3 courses and 2 drinks each. Pate was beautiful and the garlic bread with cheese added as requested was also delicious. For mains the creamy garlic chicken was good but the sauce was a little watery (We would personally prefare it to be thicker) the sirloin steak for a little shy of £20 I also found watery. And onion rings and mushrooms were greasy. Not sure what happened there. The peppercorn sauce and chips were delicious though. For dessert chocolate brownie - WARM of course :) was delicious. Mint choc chip ice cream with one and chocolate orange with the other. Be warned there full of flavour, tasted homemade.
The waitresses were nice enough when they came to the table just a shame they spent 90% of the time lent up against the bar with their backs to us, so when we wanted to order a drink it took a while to get anyone's attention. Won't stop me from going back. But I'll maybe have a burger and a drink next time or maybe the takeout option rather than go for a full meal. Won't be somewhere I'll be going regularly or for special occasions.
