About This Pub

Ah, the Hare & Hounds – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem in King's Heath, you know? I've heard from folks who've been there that the food is a real highlight; those burgers and loaded fries sound like they'd hit the spot after a long day, and pairing it with a cold beer from their decent selection makes for a top evening. It's especially ace for catching live music, with good sound and that buzz of excitement in the air. The staff are generally lovely and welcoming, which adds to the friendly vibe. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect – the layout can be a bit of a faff, what with the entrance plonked right by the stage, making it hard to hear yourself think sometimes. Prices might make you raise an eyebrow, and there have been tales of the odd staff member not quite pulling their weight. Still, if you're up for a bit of adventure and don't mind overlooking the minor niggles, it's a solid choice for a pint, a meal, or even a gig night out.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think juicy burgers, loaded fries, and even superb fish and chips that leave you wanting more.
  • It's a brilliant spot for live gigs with great sound quality and a welcoming atmosphere that makes every event feel special.
  • Friendly staff who generally go the extra mile, and they've got a solid selection of beers to choose from.
  • That trendy vibe really shines through, with nice touches like local hot sauces and discounts on food if you're there for a show.
Cons
  • The layout can be a bit awkward, like having the entrance right next to the stage, which makes it tricky to enjoy the music without distractions.
  • Prices feel a tad steep for the area, especially if you're just popping in for a drink or a quick bite.
  • Occasionally, service might not be up to scratch, with some staff seeming more interested in chatting than helping out.
  • The terrace access is a bit odd, involving going up and down into a courtyard, which isn't the most straightforward.

Super cool and trendy pub/ venue. Went in two for one burger night and was not disappointed in the quality of the burgers, super delicious and highly recommend!! Also the loaded fries were exceptional, and the addition of the local company Pips hot sauce being available was a nice touch. The pub has a great selection of beers and ciders including local breweries such as attic brewery.

decent pub and gig venue although it's laid out oddly with the main entrance and exit door right next to the stage and a narrow viewing area.. think they should partition off the entrance door.

A great pub with friendly staff and a good selection of beers. We ate there before a gig and had the fish and chips which were superb. Prices are pretty typical for the area. We saw Good Bad Happy Sad in the smaller of the two venues, but I’ve seen many bands in both over the years. Generally, the sound and lighting is good and the viewing, dependent upon where you find yourself, is decent. It’s a great place to see smaller up and coming bands.

Saw Big Horizon there, great gig, good sound, great venue. Beer was good, only let down was one guy serving the beer who was more interested in taking to his mates about his hair than serving customers.

Decent pub and enue upstairs. Not too big. Sounds system pretty ok. Prices a bit steep for a club in the location. Was there for a vinyl 90's funky house night. Terrace a little strange with having to go up and down into court yard
