About This Pub
Ah, the Guy Fawkes Arms – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper hidden gem in the heart of North Yorkshire. Picture yourself stepping into this 17th-century spot, named after the famous Guy Fawkes himself, and you're greeted with a cosy, welcoming interior that's full of character. The food really steals the show; folks rave about the hearty dishes, from flaky steak pies to tasty starters and those Sunday lunches that hit the spot every time, all using seasonal, local produce to keep things fresh and authentic. The service is spot on too – it's that perfect balance of attentive without being over the top, leaving you feeling looked after from start to finish. It's a great place to pop in for a pint of their well-kept ales or to catch up with mates in a relaxed setting. On the flip side, if you're bringing your dog along, you'll have to stick to the bar area since they don't allow them in the restaurant, and there might be the occasional small issue, like portions not quite matching up on some sides. All in all, though, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a bit of history mixed with modern comforts – I'd say it's well worth a visit for a proper pub day out.
Pros and Cons
Pros

The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious pub grub like buttery steak pies and divine Sunday roasts, all made with fresh, local ingredients.
-
Service is warm and welcoming, with staff who make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's got a lovely historic vibe in a picturesque village setting, perfect for a relaxing pint or meal.
-
They've got a great selection of well-kept real ales, and it's dog-friendly in the bar area, which is brilliant if you're out with your four-legged mate.
-
The atmosphere is just charming, with a real community feel where you can chat with locals and enjoy the buzz.
Cons
-
Dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant, only in the bar, so you might have to plan ahead if you're dining with your pet.
-
There can be minor niggles, like not quite enough bread with the pate, but it's nothing that spoils the overall experience.

Fantastic pub grub with excellent service. Great offers on for 2 or 3 courses. The steak pie was cooked to perfection. Pastry was buttery and flaky, meat was tender. Jam roly poly was very good!
Excellent pub, very friendly service. Lovely interior. We didn't dine but it was very busy with diners who all expressed their delight with the food. Well kept selection of real ales. Dog friendly in the bar area.
From walking through the door we felt welcome, shown to our table drinks orders taken and menus supplied, a good selection of food available, but not a ridiculous number of dishes which always worries me.
Starters “ham hock terine” and “tempura king prawns” were very tasty!
Mains of tray baked style Steak pie, thrice cooked chips, and a large selection of veggies with a fantastic rich dark gravy were so comforting!!
Black Sheep ale for me and a house Sav’ blanc for the wife.
The place was busy but we were never left waiting. Excellent, would recommend 👍
Love a village pub that you can talk to the locals it has a warm and friendly atmosphere and the staff are extremely helpful 👍 as well. As an added bonus the food 😋 and drink 🍸 was unbelievable 👌 and that's why they deserve a 5 🌟.
The service was welcoming, friendly and the right amount of attentive.
The food was absolutely amazing, black pudding hash balls and liver pate starters to share. Only slight criticism was could have done with more bread for the pate. We then had a Full Faulkes Sunday Lunch each and it was divine. I can thoroughly recommend eating here as a group, for an intimate date night or as just a treat. You won't be disappointed.
