About This Pub

Ah, the General Williams Inn – it's one of those unpretentious spots in Burnley that just feels like a proper local haunt, you know? From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute gems, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels included, which really adds to that warm, community feel. The prices are spot on too; you can grab a pint without worrying about the cost, and it's got this charming traditional vibe that harks back to the good old days of pubs. Plus, the beer garden is a nice touch for when the weather's playing ball. On the flip side, though, the drink options are a bit on the basic side – mostly gas-based beers and not much for those wanting craft brews or non-alcoholic choices, which could leave some folks wanting more. It might also feel a smidge empty during off-peak hours, so if you're after a buzzing atmosphere, it might not hit the mark every time. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening with mates, but it's worth going in with realistic expectations to get the most out of it.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, which is always a win for a casual night out without breaking the bank.
  • It's got that classic traditional pub vibe, perfect for a good old chat with the locals and soaking up some genuine community spirit.
  • There's a nice beer garden with plenty of tables, ideal for enjoying a drink outside on a sunny day.
Cons
  • The beer selection is a bit limited, mostly gas-based with no real ales, which might disappoint if you're after something more varied.
  • Non-alcoholic options are few and far between, so it might not suit everyone, especially if you're driving or skipping the booze.
  • It can feel a tad quiet at times, like during lunch hours, which takes away from the lively pub atmosphere you'd hope for.
  • While it's cosy for the regulars, it doesn't stand out as anything particularly special, so it might not wow you on your first visit.

I'm not local to this pub, always been in when it's empty at lunch as the car has not been finished over the road.

Lovely locals pub, chatted to everyone, and cheap beer. A special kind of traditional pub for the locals.

Nice reassuringly normal 'pub' pub. No nonsense, decently stocked bar and price of a round was definitely acceptable, was surprised and relieved to get a handful of change, including some £1 coins, Frome a tenner 🙂 plenty of tables in beer/smoking garden too. I'd call in for a drink again for sure

Friendly staff and pleasant environment...sadly beer choice is all gas based, no "proper beer". Limited non alcohol options. OK for quiz league night but not special. (Sorry GW staff who try hard)
