About This Pub
Ah, let me tell you about Little White Horse – it's one of those hidden gems in Burnley that just hits the spot for a proper relaxed evening out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is where they really shine; think exquisite small plates and sharing boards that pair beautifully with their cracking wine selection. That Sunday roast, in particular, sounds like a dream – juicy chicken or beef with all the fixings, and even a veggie option to keep everyone happy. The weekly deals, like the Thursday platter for £25 or the bottomless brunch on Saturdays, make it feel like great value without breaking the bank. And the service? Top marks all round; folks rave about how welcoming and attentive the team is, which really adds to that cosy, Motown-filled ambiance where you can kick back and forget your worries. On the flip side, though, it's not open every day – just Thursday through Sunday – so if you're planning a cheeky mid-week pint, you might be out of luck. Plus, being a wine bar at heart, it might not be the first choice if you're more of a beer enthusiast looking for a vast selection. All in all, it's a fabulous little spot for foodies and those after a mellow night, but worth checking the hours first to avoid any disappointment. I'd say give it a go if you're in the area; you won't regret it!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch – their Sunday roast is a real winner, with tender meats, golden roast potatoes, and all the trimmings that leave you feeling chuffed.
-
Service is spot on; the staff are friendly and make you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or a full meal.
-
It's got such a cosy, relaxed vibe with soulful Motown tunes playing, perfect for unwinding with mates or a date night.
-
Great value for money with those weekly offers, like the Thursday platter or bottomless brunch on Saturdays – you get a lot for your pound.
Cons
-
It's only open four days a week, which can be a bit of a downer if you're in the mood for a spontaneous visit mid-week.
-
As a wine bar, the focus is more on wines and cocktails, so if you're after a wide range of beers, you might find the selection a tad limited.

Amazing food & service, this is the 2nd time I've eaten at the Little White Horse but the 1st time I've had the Sunday roast & it was unreal 👌🏻🤤 we will definitely be back as everyone loved their food! I didn't get pictures of everyone's meals but they were all amazing, we all left very happy & are looking forward to going back sometime soon 😊
Came here for my birthday with my partner. We already knew a little bit about them from using the takeaway raidys. But wow what a experience. Fantastic food, relaxed vibes and even better drinks. We will be back!! Thank you again
Friendly vibe and classic cocktails...
It had been a while, but I just wanted to enjoy a couple of drinks on my own. A quick Perplexity search had offered a few suggestions when it comes to cocktails but I enjoy a traditional bar setting with bar stools at the counter. Looking at some photos, Little White Horse seemed to offer such a setting.
It took me a while to realise that Little White Horse was in the same premises where Illuminati used to be. Google Street View needs a bit of an update.
The atmosphere inside was friendly and welcoming, which made for a nice contrast on a grey and miserable Thursday evening.
I was pleasantly surprised to find an Old Fashioned and Bramble on the menu, so I proceeded with ordering the former, for starters. Since I prefer bitter cocktails, Connor - the bartender / mixologist - made me a Negroni even though it wasn't on the menu. That kind of sold it for me... I will definitely be back.
Fun fact:
I wanted to compare Wilfred's Old Fashioned and Negroni, so I took an Uber to go and check it out. I never even ordered the drinks! The difference in atmosphere was rather stark. The lighting at Wilfred's bar is way too harsh, the few bar stools available - despite the large counter - have a blocked off view due to taps and other 'stuff'. No music in the background. It just felt clinical and not really welcoming at all. Crow Wood had the opportunity to create a destination bar, but the vibe doesn't match the prices, I'm afraid. I'll be sticking to Little White Horse when I fancy a cocktail in Burnley.
Fantastic place to either go as a date night or also family friendly too. The food and service is great and such great value for money.
We have had the Sunday roast a few times now and it was delicious every single time.
Absolutely fantastic decor inside and a very chilled and relaxing environment. Cocktails were 10/10 and the food was incredible!!! Will be back very soon for sure and can’t recommend this place highly enough
