THE INN ON THE WHARF in Burnley

Had our wedding party here. While the party itself went well, this is not because of the Inn on the Wharf, although admittedly it has a quite pretty function room with the old design etc. However, do yourself a favour and avoid this place please. The owner is dishonest and will not give you your deposit back. The service is poor: the staff are rude and he skimped out on bar staff, meaning that people spent more time queuing for drinks than enjoying the party. He tried to close the bar at 11:15, despite telling me it would be last orders at 11:45 - they eventually kept the bar open until 11:40 after I challenged the staff over it. The food was absolutely dreadful - it was enough for him to say he provided food in exchange for the money he had been paid, but nothing more. Most of the food was left untouched and the staff said my wife and I could go back the next morning to take what we wanted, and then they would throw away the rest (reasonable!). Before the party, I was told by the owner (Brian) that we were ok to put up balloons so long as they "could be taken down easily" the next day. When booking, I was told that £100 of deposit would be returned to me so long as the room is "left in a clean and decent state and not disrespected". We went back the next day, took some of the food home and didnt take the balloons down (as I thought he had meant they would remove them as part of their normal clean up). When I politely asked for the £100 later in the week, he said the room had been left in "complete ruin" because we didnt throw away the food or remove the balloons, and therefore he would keep the £100. This was completely untrue. No reasonable person would think that we did not leave the room in a clean and decent condition, or that the room had been disrespected. It's also a bit rich given that half the table cloths he provided were stained and manky. This is a commercial venue and cleaning costs are a part of normal overheads - having to take down and throw away some balloons and throw a sub-standard buffet in the bin are not valid reasons to withhold the deposit. In light of the pretty serious money he would have made from the party, it was a 1 hour clean up job at tops, and there was no damage or stains etc caused during the party. The owner has refused to engage with anything I have said to him on whatssap, so he clearly just thinks he can get away with illegitemately holding on to money that isnt his, thinking that no one would bother taking him to Court over £100. If ever a man showed his true colours, it was Brian when he thought he could get an easy £100. Don't play this man at cards! Ought to be ashamed of himself, truly not a decent or honest man.

Wouk just like to thank Brian for a fantastic venue for our wedding. The buffet was absolutely amazing too. We all had a fantastic day and night defo recommend for anyone thinking of having a function. Thanks again Corinne &Alan 😊

Always enjoy a drink or two at The Inn on the Wharf, especially listening to live music. Bar staff work hard, always a smile. Not eaten there, but food looks good. Wishing the owners continued success.

Fabulous pub in a great location with outdoor seating on the canal side. The staff are friendly, helpful and very efficient. Fantastic live music venue.

I had my wedding reception here on 15th June 2024 and I couldn't thank them all brian and craig have done absolutely amazing at reopening this place. The bar staff I couldn't fault at all so lovely all the food were scrumptious too so all round a 10 out of 10 from me my husband and our families.
