About This Pub

Ah, the Fox & Hounds in Kingsthorpe – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its vibrant community spirit and homely charm. From what I've gathered from folks who've been, the service is spot on; the staff are always up for a chat and make sure everything runs smoothly, which is just what you want after a long day. The food's a real highlight too – think hearty, well-priced meals with fresh ingredients that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. And if you're a dog owner, it's a winner for a casual stop-off. On the downside, those karaoke evenings can ramp up the noise levels quite a bit, making it feel more like a lively sing-along than a peaceful pint, and the music can sometimes drown out conversations, which might put a damper on a catch-up with friends. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed meal or drink if you time it right, but it's worth keeping in mind that it has its busier, more energetic moments – just like any good local spot!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, making it a great spot to unwind with mates.
  • Service is top-notch, with staff who are warm and attentive, ensuring you feel right at home.
  • The food is delicious and comes at a fair price, with plenty of tasty options including seasonal ingredients.
  • It's dog-friendly, which is a lovely touch for anyone popping in with their furry friend.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, like real ales, premium spirits, and craft beers to suit all tastes.
Cons
  • Karaoke nights on Fridays and Saturdays can get overwhelmingly noisy, turning what could be a relaxed evening into a bit of a headache.
  • The music volume might be too high at times, making it tricky to have a proper chat over your pint.
  • Some evenings feel dominated by the local crowd, which might not be everyone's cup of tea if you're after a quieter vibe.

The service was excellent, the food too and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. It's a dog friendly pub too. That's always good in my books.

Such a shame this ‘pub’ is now no more than a dreadful karaoke venue for a handful of local regulars on Friday and Saturday nights, as they actually sell a good pint of Phipp’s IPA. But it’s too awful to stay and have to listen to. I’m afraid I won’t be visiting again until there’s new management who knows how to run a pub properly. (February 2025)

Went for lunch with a friend on a weekday. The food was delicious and I have no complaints about the service. The music was a little too loud and although I liked the play list it intruded into our conversation. This is what lost one star.
