About This Pub
Ah, Fitzgerald's – it's one of those places in Liverpool that really gets the heart going with its authentic Irish charm right in the city centre. I've got to say, the live music scene is spot on; they're hosting top-notch performers every night of the week, blending traditional Irish tunes with the latest hits, and it just makes the whole place feel alive and full of energy. Pair that with the sports screenings on multiple telly screens, and you've got a brilliant spot for catching the match with mates over a pint. The location's a winner too – dead easy to pop in after shopping or hopping off the train. On the flip side, though, the beer choices are a bit limited; if you're a fan of proper bitters or more variety, you might end up sticking to the standards like Doom Bar, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. And let's be honest, the music can crank up a notch, making it tricky for a quiet catch-up, and it doesn't always hit the mark as a true Celtic bar for some. Overall, it's a solid choice for a fun evening, but keep those little niggles in mind if you're planning a visit – it's all about knowing what you're in for to make the most of it!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The live music is absolutely brilliant, with talented musicians playing seven nights a week, creating that electric Irish vibe that keeps things lively and fun.
-
It's smack in the heart of Liverpool, just a short walk from the shopping centre and train station, making it super convenient for a quick pint or a night out.
-
They've got multiple screens showing all the major sports, so it's a top spot if you're into watching the game with a crowd.
-
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff and plenty of character in the decor, like those fun pictures on the walls that give you something to chat about.
Cons
-
The beer selection could do with a bit more variety; it's a shame they don't have things like bitter, even in bottles, which might disappoint some ale enthusiasts.
-
The music can get a tad loud at times, which is great for a party but might make it hard to have a proper chat if you're after a quieter evening.
-
It's not quite what everyone expects from an Irish bar – some folks find it lacking that true Celtic authenticity, especially if you're from Scotland or elsewhere with different traditions.

I've been coming here for many years and its interior has altered numerous times over the last fifty years, normally for the better as tastes do change over time. In its latest reiteration it's changed to an Irish Bar, one of many in Slater St. They have done a good job on the interior, all the walls are now covered in photos of famous Irish people. We spent some time looking at them and guessing who they were. The bar looks fairly new with bottles arranged up the mirrored wall, it looks the part. Service was good and they have a reasonable range of beers and shorts. Well worth a visit.
Popped in for a pint after a gig, seemed a pretty lively with place with a bit of entertainment. Would pop in again!
Good Celtic bar, of that there is no doubt. And a good bar in general. However, I can't understand people on here saying it has a good selection of beers when it doesn't even sell bitter. Not even in bottles. Nearest thing is Doom bar. Personally I'm not that keen on the stuff but last time in they had ran out and I was "forced" to drink lager, which I would definitely rather not do. So sadly that was probably my last time watching a game there.
Went in here as music was pumping and other places we wanted to go were dead. High ceilings, music a tad loud but good. Plenty TV screens, decor was amusing. Decent selection of drink on draft. Would try somewhere else before returning. As a Scot it is not what we would class as a Celtic bar.
Lovely little Irish bar to spend an evening. They regularly have live music and the atmosphere is so lively when the music is on. Servers are always walking around so ordering drinks was sound. Love all the pictures on the walls too there was plenty to look at and chat about, all in all a nice spot.
