About This Pub

Ah, English Lounge NQ – it's one of those pubs that really hits the spot if you're after a warm, welcoming spot in the bustling Northern Quarter of Manchester. I love how the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel at ease, like you're part of the gang from the get-go, and the live sports setup is just brilliant for game days, with plenty of screens to catch all the excitement. The drink deals are always a treat, offering great value without skimping on quality, and the overall atmosphere, complete with live music and a nice outdoor area, makes it perfect for catching up with friends or even celebrating something special. On the flip side, though, there have been a couple of stories about the door team being a bit heavy-handed in certain situations, like when spills lead to safety concerns, which could sour an evening if you're not careful. Still, with its solid location and community feel, it's a place I'd recommend giving a try – just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a smashing time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you step in – it's like popping into your local for a chat.
  • It's a brilliant spot for catching live sports with loads of big screens showing all the action, from football to boxing, so you won't miss a thing.
  • They've got some unbeatable drink offers and a great selection, perfect for enjoying with mates without breaking the bank.
  • The atmosphere is spot on, with live music and a cosy vibe that makes it feel like a proper community pub in the heart of Manchester.
  • Plenty of seating options, including booths and an outside terrace, plus it's conveniently located near the Arndale Centre for a quick city stop.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of overzealous door staff stepping in during minor issues, which can put a dampener on an otherwise good night out.
  • Occasional slip-ups with things like wet floors from spills, which might lead to getting asked to leave unexpectedly – not ideal when you're having a laugh.
  • It might not always have the smoothest service during busy times, as some folks have mentioned things feeling a bit rushed.

Came here for a staff night out and was asked to leave despite spending nearly £250 on drinks for work colleagues. Because the floor was wet and slippery from where someone had spilled drinks. The door staff removed me from the venue and wouldn’t allow me or any of my work colleagues to collect my jacket. Also the door staff were so rude and accused me of being rude and racism towards them. When asked to see the door staff sia badge and information they refused to give it despite going in to get the bar manager. I went in today to try and collect my jacket that had my wallet and personal items in and it’s now gone missing. None of my work colleagues picked it up last night when we left.

What a fantastic venue with welcoming and friendly staff. As soon as you walk in it feels like your own local as it’s so welcoming which is rare in a city. Music on Saturday afternoon was really fantastic - I'll defo be back here next time I’m in Manchester

Smart & well priced "sports bar" close to the National Football museum . Well laid out with great seating options, booths with screens & decent enough food. Staff are friendly quick & efficient. Great place to watch sport...

I first visited this pub a few weeks back with my mum when we went to Manchester to watch a show, today we went again to Manchester to watch another show and we had to visit this place again for lunch. On both occasions the food and service was definitely 5 star, the pub has a great feel when you walk in and the staff are very welcoming. The prices for both food and drink are also very reasonable. When we went today we noticed there'd been a menu change which I was a little disappointed about because I wanted to order what I'd had the first time but it was no longer on the menu. When I spoke to a member of staff about the new menu I mentioned what I'd ordered the first time, he then took it upon himself to go and ask the chef if it would he possible for me to have the philly steak sub roll even though it was no longer on the menu, the chef said this was okay so I was able to have what I wanted. That is definitely what I would call 5 star service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Special shout out to Phil who was the member of staff that sorted everything for me today and thank you for another wonderful lunch 🫶 ** The picture attached is from my first visit as I forgot to take one today 🤦‍♀️

Went to have lunch and watch the football and had a great time! There were loads of screens up with multiple different games on so you could watch the one you wanted (and if they aren’t showing the one you want I’m sure if you ask they’ll switch the channel on one of the many screens). We ordered small plates to have a “tapas” lunch and everything was so good!!😍
