About This Pub

Ah, the Wolf at the Door – it's one of those unassuming spots in Manchester that just draws you in for a proper pint and a bite. I have to say, it's got that warm, welcoming feel where you can settle in for a chat with mates over some tasty grub and drinks that go beyond the usual fare. The food's a real highlight; things like the beef massam fries or those rice dishes are surprisingly good and won't break the bank, making it a brilliant choice if you're after something straightforward and satisfying. And let's not forget the staff – they're always up for a laugh and make the place feel more like a local hangout. On the flip side, it's a small venue, so it fills up quickly, and if you're peckish, you might find yourself waiting a while for your order, which can put a dampener on things if you're not in the mood to linger. All in all, it's a solid pick for a relaxed outing, but I'd suggest going early to avoid the crowds and manage your expectations on the service – it's got that charm that makes you want to return, warts and all.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is decent and reasonably priced, with standout dishes like those beef massam fries that really hit the spot.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, including some unique ones you won't find in every pub, which keeps things fresh and exciting.
  • The staff are proper friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's a great little spot for casual cheap eats and a relaxed vibe, perfect for a laid-back afternoon or evening out.
Cons
  • It can get quite crowded in this small bar, so you might end up waiting for a seat or dealing with a bit of a squeeze.
  • Service can be a tad slow at times, especially if you're after food – sometimes it takes 25 to 45 minutes, which isn't ideal if you're in a rush.
  • Some of the dishes are nice enough but don't quite stand out as exceptional, feeling a bit ordinary for what you're paying.

This place does decent food, it wasn't overly busy so the food came quickly & was reasonably priced. They have a selection of different drinks you don't always find in other places, the staff were cool too. The beef massam fries were awesome 😍

Wolf at the Door is a good spot for those who wants to get some cheap eats and drinks. This small bar with its 25 seats can get full easily but nonetheless it is worth a visit. Their bao buns, loaded fries and rice bowls are well priced but nothing too special. Maybe worth a visit if you are in the area and want to drink and eat some Asian fare.

Their food and drinks selection was great but service can take ages for even the smallest dishes, so if you're having a lighter day where you can sip a drink and wait 25-45 minutes for your food I would definitely recommend this place!

My friend and I ordered chicken katsu here and it is really nice! Under the pork and beans, there are rice and fries. Enjoy! The wine wall and taps are also interesting decorations.

Went to try out their new food menu and was very thoroughly impressed as I didn’t expect such good quality food from a very bar-looking venue 😅. Food: we ordered a variety of dishes but the standout to me was the rice dishes, the beef rendang was surprisingly very nice and so was the katsu curry. Atmosphere: as mentioned previously a predominantly bar venue it has a nice touch offering such variety of food dishes to have with drinks. Prices: prices are decent and reasonable for the portion and quality of food you get Service: lady at the bar was very nice, the bloke serving us the food was friendly too and apologised for the delay but would say they need more staff as service was quite slow especially for the food.
