About This Pub

Ah, Effra Social – it's one of those Brixton gems that really knows how to bring people together for a good time. I have to say, what stands out most is the lively buzz; whether you're up for a competitive pub quiz on Tuesdays or belting out tunes in the karaoke room, there's always something on to get you in the spirit. The outdoor terrace is a proper treat, especially with those heaters keeping things cosy when the weather turns, and at £4.75 a pint during happy hour, it's easy to see why folks keep coming back for more. The food's spot on too – those chips are legendary, and the pub classics go down a treat. But, let's be honest, it's not all perfect; I've heard a few tales of cocktails not quite hitting the mark, like an Old Fashioned that didn't quite deliver, which could put a dampener on things if you're set on something fancy. Still, with such a welcoming crowd and friendly faces behind the bar, it's a place I'd happily recommend for a solid night out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe stick to the beers if you're playing it safe.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely buzzing with a great mix of events like pub quizzes, comedy nights, and karaoke, making it perfect for a fun evening with friends.
  • They've got interactive darts and a huge covered outdoor terrace with heaters, which is ideal for those chilly London nights.
  • Drinks are a steal during happy hour – £4.75 for house pours from midday to 7pm on weekdays, and the food like those spot-on chips and classic pub grub really hits the spot.
  • Friendly staff and engaging hosts add to the welcoming vibe, especially during events, and it's got a cool historical feel inside that gives it character.
  • It's versatile for any time of day, whether you're popping in for a relaxed pint or gearing up for a lively party.
Cons
  • There can be inconsistency with drinks, like cocktails not always living up to expectations, which might disappoint if you're after something specific.
  • With all the events and crowds, it might get a bit hectic at times, so if you're after a quiet spot, it could feel overwhelming.

Cute pub that kind of has it all - outdoors seating, downstairs that turns into a dances vibe on weekends, pints, food, history, and deals, making it a nice spot for a visit at any time of day. It’s quite cool inside too, where you can see bits of its history

We’ve been regulars at this place since April. Visiting almost every week, often two times. I’ve ordered the same cocktails many times and always loved them, especially the Old Fashioned and Picante. But this time, the quality was really disappointing. The Old Fashioned came without the orange or rim, and the Picante (made with El Jimador Blanco, lime, and red chili) was missing its signature chili on the glass. I had to return it and switch to a Passionfruit Martini, which also wasn’t as good as usual. It seems like there’s been a change in bartenders, and sadly, the cocktails are no longer what they used to be. I even brought friends here because I loved the drinks, but this visit left us disappointed. I really hope things go back to the high standard we were used to. I’ll update my review depending on how things improve in the future.

Second place in the pub quiz might have me biased & high on adrenaline... but this is easily my favourite pub quiz experience - great food, great space, and Alfie brought great vibes & tunes. Will be back gunning for first place!

Our favourite local pub, friendly staff, nice outdoor area with heaters. And we really enjoy the pub quiz on a Tuesday evening. The host is great fun and it’s engaging for all levels of quizzes

Went for a comedy night and what a wonderful atmosphere. The chips were ON POINT (and I know a chip) fish was great.
