About This Pub

Ah, Hootananny Brixton – what a lively little haven it is in the heart of Brixton! From what I've gathered from the buzz around, it's got this infectious energy with live music that's just spot on, covering everything from soulful jazz to pumping reggae and even some cheeky grime nights. I love how it's all about that community feel, with staff who genuinely make you feel welcome, and there's heaps of room to spread out, whether you're grabbing a pint indoors or chilling in the outdoor area with some tasty snacks from the food vans. It's especially brilliant for groups looking to have a laugh and soak up the atmosphere during weekend events. On the downside, though, it can get a bit noisy if you're sensitive to sound – that music vibe carries over, which might not suit everyone, and there have been a few mentions of technical hitches like odd noises during sets that could throw things off. Still, with such high marks from folks who've been there, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a good time overall, so if you're up for some tunes and a chat, I'd say give it a go, but maybe pack some earplugs just in case!

Cons

  • Occasional sound issues during gigs, like unwanted noises from the setup, can put a slight dampener on the atmosphere.
  • The operating hours vary a bit, so it's worth checking in advance to avoid any surprises.

Had a 2 night stay here for Wide Awake. Can't complain. I was the last person to check in on the Thursday and I can't remember the name of the staff I talked to but they were wonderful. I'll stay here for next Wide Awake for sure (location is perfect)! Honestly as someone that has a low opinion of London hostels this was one of the best and is the level you'd expect throughout Europe (I'm not kidding only like 2/8 London hostels reach that level)

Absolutely one of the cleanest hostel I have ever stayed in. The hostel is located above a live music venue and night club. There can be noise from the venue that reaches the dormitories and carries on into the night. They provide ear plugs on request. Live music generally goes until 11pm on Sunday-Wednesday, 2am on Thursday, and 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel is quite clean from the common areas to the dorms. The bed was clearly marked with my name and it was already made when I arrived so that's nice! There is light breakfast included. There are small lockers for valuables located inside the corridors. I was in a 10 bed mixed dorm and it was absolutely fine. Fresh clean bedding. Comfortable mattresses and clean towels provided. Felt safe, warm and comfortable throughout my stay. I’ll be back.

Great spot for live music, pool table, drinks, and snacks! Food vans available in the venue and large open seating area make it a perfect venue for a group of mates. Plenty of space inside and outside - highly recommend, especially buzzing during weekend events.

A local gem with a bit of history and a laid-back vibe that makes it perfect for summer hangouts. It’s especially nice to grab a drink and chill in the garden, where the atmosphere is effortlessly easygoing and relaxed. There’s a charming, slightly decadent feel to the place that adds to its character. Depending on the day, you might head over to the nearby park or just stay put and enjoy the garden — sometimes there are food stands too, so you can even grab a bite outside. Either way, it’s always a good time.

Great venue for live music, friendly staff and crowd, good atmosphere. I attended for a jazz evening dedicated to Nina Simone which was fabulous! The performers mentioned an issue which they’d had in sound check which was a loud noise from the disco balls above when they weren’t playing which is why I dedicated a star as this wasn’t rectified. I also ate delicious Mexican food in the beer garden which was prepared fresh.
