About This Pub
Ah, The Prince of Wales – it's one of those Brixton spots that feels like a reliable old friend, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, buzzing energy with friendly staff who make you feel welcome straight away, and they've nailed the beer selection and food like those tasty burgers that folks rave about. The live bands and events add a real spark, perfect for a casual night out or before heading to a gig nearby. But let's be honest, it's not all perfect; the place is a tad no-frills inside, and having to fetch your own drinks without table service can feel a bit of a chore on a packed evening. Still, with its clean vibe and easy access, it's a solid choice if you're after good value in a moderate-priced spot – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but maybe temper your expectations for anything too fancy.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are always friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers and tasty food options, like those satisfying cheeseburgers and cold pints that hit the spot.
-
The atmosphere is spot on, with a chilled vibe, live bands, and events like drag bingo that add a fun twist to the evening.
-
It's in a prime location in Brixton, easy to pop into before or after a gig, and the place is kept clean and tidy.
-
Free entry and pleasant security make it welcoming without any hassle.
Cons
-
The interior is a bit basic and not particularly flashy, so it might not wow you if you're after something more upscale.
-
No table service means you'll have to queue at the bar, which could be a downside during busy nights.
-
Their website seems a bit glitchy and hard to access, which might make it tricky to check details beforehand.
-
Opening hours appear inconsistent in the info available, so it's worth double-checking to avoid disappointment.
-
With an overall rating of 3.5, it's clear there are mixed opinions, and some folks might find it just okay rather than outstanding.

Popped in by chance before a gig, definitely chose the right place as I bumped into a few friends. Good beer selection, friendly helpful staff and great atmosphere. Came back for a bit after the gig aswell and there was a band on, shame I had too go and get my train home. Will definitely pop in when I'm in the area again!
My girlfriend and I visited on Saturday 8th of March at about 15:30. Order 2 double cheeseburger 🍔 and too pints of Mahou beer. Food really tasty and well presented.. beer was satisfying cold . Place looked clean and tidy..good light and atmosphere, not too busy.
Staff was polite, helpful and well mannered.
We were served by a male staff in a shirt (manager?).
Cash accepted which is always good to have an option.
We'll definitely come back when in the area...
We had a lovely evening here and the bar staff are always friendly.
Free entry to go in. Security was pleasant, no issues getting in.
There was a live band playing, with multiple singers on the mic..... Very chilled out vibe.
This place has changed over the years, but overall it's still a nice place to visit when in Brixton.
Nice colourful designs on the wall, in the beer garden.
📍 Prince of Wales
🌍 Brixton
🏛 A hefty brick curved frontage sits above the bright blue ground level pub, you really can't miss this place. Indoors it's a large open space which is only broken up by a few substantial columns. There's nothing flashy here but a few pop art prints bring colour to the room
🍺 Decent choice but nothing too amazing.
🙋♂️My view: This Prince of Wales clearly prefers the night time, as does a lot of Brixton. It doesn't open until 4pm on weekdays and 3pm at weekends. It's in business til 2am on Fridays and Saturdays though. There's nothing spectacular or unique about the place but I bet it really gets going when the Sun goes down.
As venues go, the location couldn't be better. Great security on the door and a very nice welcome. We were there a drag bingo event. The show was great, fun interactions and the drinks well made and poured.
Would have been great to have had some table service in the bingo... I'd have spent more for sure!
Also, the one thing that was a shame was the bar team packing up before the end... Made it feel I shouldn't drink more!
Really enjoyable night though and we will be back.
