About This Pub

Ah, the Eagle & Child – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Leyland, you know? I've heard from folks that the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, and the food is a real highlight, with delicious Sunday roasts and pub favourites that hit the spot every time. They're always running enticing offers, like that 30% off mains deal, and it's brilliant for grabbing a pint in the garden or bringing the dog along for a relaxed afternoon. On the flip side, though, there have been a couple of grumbles about getting overcharged or minor service blunders, which is a shame because it could sour an otherwise great outing. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after a cosy, character-filled spot for a catch-up with friends, but maybe keep an eye on the bill to avoid any surprises. I'd say it's worth a visit for the atmosphere alone, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is spot on – think hearty Sunday roasts, pub classics, and tasty deals like 30% off mains that make it great value.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of drinks, from cask ales to ciders and wines, perfect for unwinding with mates.
  • It's super dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friend along for a pint and some grub.
  • The pub garden is a lovely spot for enjoying the outdoors, especially on a sunny day with good company.
  • It has a charming, traditional vibe with plenty of history, making it a cosy and characterful place to relax.
Cons
  • There have been a few slip-ups with billing, like getting charged the full price instead of a deal, which can be a bit frustrating.
  • It's not the biggest spot, so it might feel a tad cramped when it's busy, and you could struggle to find a seat.
  • Service isn't always spot-on, with some reviews mentioning inconsistencies that might put a dampener on your visit.

Popped in after noting they sold food driving past. After checking menu they have lunch time deal has hunters chicken £8.49. ended up getting charged £12.49 for the normal price. Didn't hear what figure he said when I tapped my card. I make it a habit not to complain about food before it's served, just n case I get a spiteful surprise. Anyway also orders a pint of draft cider old Rosie apparently. Cider was warm. Food chicken was dried out and had a job cutting through it or chewing it. See pictures of the chips. The photo shows half of the child's portion provided. This half a portion where I come from would be called scraps in the chip shop and sold for 20p a bag.

Good pub grub and selection of beers. A nice, traditional and comfortably easy pub to sit and enjoy wholesome food and drink while kicking back and relaxing. The Eagle and Child is an old pub with history and a pleasant vibe. Give it a try, pubs like this are getting rarer.

The best pub in Leyland. Always had lovely meals here over the year's and today was no exception. A wonderful chef is Michael, making a delicious Sunday roast. Also Lesley and Molly are charming hosts. It's not a large pub but makes up for in charm and old world decor. A proper character venue in a very pretty part of Leyland, with a carpark across the road and close to town and Tesco. Highly recommended.
