About This Pub

Ah, the Bay Horse – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper community hub, especially since the new folks took over and breathed fresh life into the place. I've heard from mates that the food is a real highlight; we're talking hearty, well-cooked dishes with portions that don't skimp, and at prices that make it easy on the wallet – perfect for a Sunday roast or a quick burger deal. The staff are dead helpful and create that warm, chatty vibe you want after a long week, and it's great that they welcome dogs, so you can pop in with your furry mate. On the flip side, though, it seems like they sometimes struggle with the bigger stuff, like sorting out events or keeping everyone in the loop, which could leave you a bit frustrated if you're planning something special. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint and meal, but maybe give them a ring first if you've got plans in mind – that way, you can enjoy the best of what this spot has to offer without any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is spot on – think tasty, home-cooked meals with generous portions that won't break the bank, making it a brilliant spot for a casual bite.
  • Friendly and helpful staff who make you feel right at home, with excellent service that adds to the welcoming vibe.
  • It's turned around nicely under the new owners, bringing back a great atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with family and friends.
  • Dog-friendly and with options like affordable deals and a cosy setting, it's ideal for a relaxed day out or evening in.
Cons
  • There can be hitches with organising events or special bookings, like when communication falls short and leaves things a bit disorganised.
  • Not every visit is flawless, with some folks mentioning worries about menu limitations or inconsistent experiences, so it's worth checking ahead.

Had a fabulous evening and a fantastic meal. Things have completely turned around in here since the new owners took hold of it. It had been in desperate need for someone to resurrect what had once been a ‘great local’ sadly destroyed by the previous tenants. The atmosphere is back, the food is to die for and the staff are happy. All in all it’s so good to see our local back on its feet. And great to see a visible presence of a landlord who cares. Long may it last!!!

Arranged for a group of 15 to go to the Bay Horse to enjoy a 2 course meal, cabaret and quiz. The manager had approached me some 3 weeks prior saying he wanted to build up local interest. I knew there was a limited menu and the manager said he would contact me beforehand to describe the menu. HE DIDN’T! We arrived today at 12 noon only to be told there was no Chef and the event was cancelled! I would have thought a courtesy call beforehand would have been the least to expect. The manager was not available of course! Our group will NEVER return to the Bay Horse. It deserves to fail!

Great value, tasty home cooked food, and they don't skimp on the portions like a lot of pub chains do. Friendly helpful staff. A big plus is the fact it's dog friendly.

This is a pub close to my mother's, I have obviously drank in here many times over the years. Tuesday was the first day I'd eaten here for many years, it's was burger day and for £5.99 you got a burger and chips with a drink. I have to say this made me worry about quality! I ordered the triple chicken burger, which was a chicken breast, pulled chicken and a piece of southern fried chicken on it which was superb ! My mother had the surf and turf one (beef and scampi) which she said was excellent. Overall a superb lunch at an amazing price, staff all really nice and helpful. Will definitely be back, seems like they have a deal everyday. Not been here for a while and visited today with my mum and son. We had the 2 course for £7.99 lunch special. My son and I had the steak sub and chips, mother opted for the steak pie and chips , I have to say great portion sizes and the food was really tasty. We went for the dessert instead of starters, the Eton mess sundae was superb and big. We will definitely be back the staff are really lovely.
