About This Pub
Ah, the Duke of Wellington – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Newcastle, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the staff really stand out; they're warm and efficient, turning what could be a hectic evening into something special, especially when things get busy with events. The food's another highlight – those burgers and lasagne come highly recommended, and it's all good value, making it a go-to for a casual bite or a family celebration. It's brilliant for sports fans too, with all the live action from the Euros or rugby tours adding to the excitement, and they've got family-friendly touches like crafts and Santa visits that make it welcoming for everyone. On the flip side, it does fill up quickly on match days, so you might find yourself jostling for space or waiting a tad longer for service, and while most grub gets rave reviews, a few folks have mentioned the sandwiches falling a bit short initially. Overall, though, it's a solid choice if you're after a place with heart, where the good times flow as freely as the pints – I'd say give it a try and see for yourself, but maybe pop in on a quieter day if you're after a more laid-back vibe.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly, attentive, and they go the extra mile to make sure everyone has a great time.
-
The food is a real winner; think tasty burgers, lasagne, and grilled meats that hit the spot, all at prices that won't break the bank.
-
It's a fantastic spot for catching live sports, with events like the Women's Euros and rugby tours creating a lively, buzzing atmosphere.
-
Family-friendly vibes are spot on, with fun activities like Breakfast with Santa that keep the little ones entertained while the grown-ups relax.
-
Plenty of handy facilities, including a big car park, dog-friendly spaces, and even options for functions, making it versatile for all sorts of get-togethers.
Cons
-
It can get pretty packed on busy nights, like during big matches, which might mean a bit of a wait or needing to book ahead.
-
Some dishes, like the sandwiches, haven't always impressed everyone, though it seems they've upped their game with other options on the menu.

Really friendly staff and amazing food. They saved a special night after we were let down by another restaurant.
We will definitely be back. Thank you
Had a great day at the Duke yesterday for some food and to watch the match. The staff are very friendly and all worked extremely hard to make sure everyone got served. Ordered burgers and lasagne at dinner time. Food arrived in good time, everything hot and was really nice. Would recommend this bar for food and atmosphere.
Family of 8 celebrating 60th birthday. Very busy match night but young staff were friendly and quick. Manageress assisted chef. The food was good value, tasty. Prices were reasonable

I'm updating my review and adding one star, as in my second and third visit I had other dishes and they were way better than sandwiches.
Grill meat is amazing, nachos and lasagna as well! You guys got one star more from me :)
It's a nice place, big parking space, nice dinning area and big pub menu, they are also dog friendly. My only complaint is that food pictures in menu are really different to reality. I will repeat in that place for sure an may change the stars
