About This Pub
Ah, The County – it's one of those classic pubs in Gosforth that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in Newcastle upon Tyne. I've got to say, what really stands out is the brilliant selection of beers; whether you're after a smooth cask ale or something crafty, it's a treat for anyone who appreciates a good pint. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making sure you're looked after, which gives it that homely, welcoming touch. Plus, if you're a sports fan, it's brilliant for watching the likes of Premier League football or rugby on the big screens – and being dog-friendly just adds to the charm, making it easy to pop in with your pooch. On the flip side, though, ordering food can be a bit of a faff sometimes; one mate mentioned it was harder than it should be, and the accents might throw you off if you're not local. The grub itself, like the pizza, is alright but nothing to rave about – it's more of an afterthought really. And the atmosphere can feel a bit bloke-y at times, so it might not suit everyone for a relaxed evening out. All in all, it's a solid spot for a pint and some laughs, but keep in mind those little niggles if you're planning a visit – still, I'd recommend giving it a go for that authentic pub experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on, with a fantastic range of cask ales that really hit the mark for any ale enthusiast.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in – it's like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
It's a proper historic pub with a comfortable, cosy atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends or watching the big sports events on the big screens.
-
Dog-friendly vibes mean you can bring your four-legged companion along, which adds to the relaxed feel.
-
They've got a great setup for live sports, from football to rugby, so it's ideal if you're into cheering on the teams with a pint in hand.
Cons
-
Ordering food, like pizza, can sometimes feel a bit fiddly and frustrating, especially if you're not used to the staff's accents.
-
The atmosphere might not always vibe for everyone; it can come across as a tad male-heavy or not as lively, which might put off some visitors.
-
The food options aren't anything to write home about – it's decent enough, but nothing particularly standout or exciting.

Our favorite pub to visit when we come to town! Adequate seating, friendly service, a beautiful bar, comfortable atmosphere.
I've never had food here although I've tried to order a pizza before but seemed harder than it needed to be, I couldn't understand the girls accent don't think she was local. Seems like a lovely building staff seem professional atmosphere wasn't great, comes across like a bunch of lonely people trying to talk louder than anyone else in the there and at really busy times it's stinks. I've had drinks there on 2 occasions while it was quite and couldn't fault the place.
Outstanding and Great beer, pizza is pocket punch happy but nowt to write home about but the folk are real, canny and the rooms you sit in meet every mood you have. Its a proper pub, with proper people, get out, live it, love it. X
Great cask ale selection, friendly atmosphere (if a bit male-heavy), big screens for football. Dogs welcome.
My local and the best pub in Newcastle. Great Ales, Well Served. Has been CAMRA pub of the year and in Good Pub guide. Excellent staff. Lesley, Callum, Sylvia know how to look after their beers and customers. Superb.
