About This Pub
Ah, The Coxwell Inn in Newcastle – it's one of those pubs that has a certain charm, you know? From what I've gathered, the locals are just lovely, making it feel like a proper community spot where you can chat away over a pint. The carvery stands out as a winner; it's brilliant value and uses meat from a top local butcher, so if you're after a hearty meal without spending a fortune, it's worth a go – just get in early as it gets popular quick. On the flip side, though, there have been some right frustrations shared by others, like orders being mucked up or cancelled after waiting ages, which is a bit of a letdown. And honestly, a few reviews paint it as a bit tatty and not up to scratch, with one chap even saying it's still a dive at heart. Overall, it's got potential for a relaxed evening, but I'd say keep your expectations in check and maybe check it's open before heading out, as things seem a tad inconsistent. If you're up for a gamble on that genuine pub atmosphere, give it a try, but it's not without its rough edges.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The locals are incredibly friendly and welcoming, giving it that authentic Geordie charm that makes you feel right at home.
-
Their carvery is excellent value for money, with meat sourced from a well-known local butcher – it's a real hit if you get there early before it sells out.
-
It's an inexpensive spot, so you won't break the bank for a good night out or a meal.
-
They're open seven days a week, which is handy if you're looking for a reliable place to pop in for a pint or a bite.
Cons
-
Some folks have had disappointing experiences with service, like orders being accepted and then cancelled after a long wait, which can really put a dampener on things.
-
There are mixed reports about the place feeling a bit run-down, with one person calling it a dive that hasn't improved much despite a name change.
-
Recent reviews show a dip in quality, with a lower average rating suggesting it's not always hitting the mark lately.
-
Confusing operating hours listed online might lead to surprises, and there's even a review mentioning it as closed, though it seems to be up and running now.

this has always been a dive a name change will not change anything I would not send a rat to drink or eat there
This pub has closed down, which is a shame,
Loved it here, locals so friendly, real Geordy Land
Ordered 2 sunday dinners, order was accepted and I was given an expected delivery time. I made stuffing balls and pigs in blankets timed for the dinner arriving. An hour passed, no food so requested an order update only for them to cancel my order. Why accept it and wait that long to cancel, disgusting service.
New carvery up and running which is excellent value for money. Meat is all from a renowned local butcher. You have to get in quick though because it's very popular.
