About This Pub

Ah, Coadys in Dunfermline – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that just feels like a reliable spot for a good catch-up with mates. I love how the staff are generally so welcoming and chatty; it really adds to that cosy, community feel, especially when you're settling in for the evening. Upstairs, they've got these weekend live bands dishing out a mix of punk and techno, which can turn a quiet drink into a proper night out with bags of energy. And let's not forget, it's super affordable, so you won't feel guilty about popping in for a few. On the flip side, though, there was that one review where things went south with a staff member being a bit short-tempered near closing, which is a shame because it could sour an otherwise nice visit. Plus, the beers aren't anything to write home about – they're decent enough, but if you're after something special, you might be disappointed. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe plan around the live music for a bit of extra fun.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are really friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a great atmosphere, especially with live bands upstairs playing everything from punk to techno – perfect for a lively night out.
  • A drama-free spot for a good time, where you can relax and enjoy yourself without any hassle.
  • Being inexpensive, it's a brilliant choice for a casual pint without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of inconsistent staff behaviour, like one instance where things got a bit abrupt near closing time, which could put a damper on your evening.
  • The beer selection isn't the best, so if you're a beer enthusiast, you might find yourself wanting more variety or quality options.

I visited Coady's Bar in Dunfermline, and the experience was extremely disappointing due to the behavior of one of the staff members. Near closing time, I explained to the woman at the bar that my partner, who has a hearing impairment, didn’t hear the announcement to finish up. We’d only bought our drinks 10 minutes before the call, and my partner politely asked another staff member if he could have a moment to finish his drink. The other staff member agreed, but shortly after, the first woman approached aggressively, snatched the drink from his hand, and shockingly threw it over my partner. This behavior was not only unprofessional but felt threatening and unsafe. It’s completely understandable that closing procedures need to be followed, but there was absolutely no need for such hostility. We were left feeling unwelcome, disrespected, and frankly, shaken. As customers, we expect a certain level of respect and understanding, especially when accessibility needs are involved. I’d strongly encourage Coady's to provide their staff with training in respectful communication and disability awareness. We won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend Coady’s to anyone who values respectful and safe service.

Drama free, great night out, would go again, my pal dragged me so next time I'll drive and he can get booted, but they may have to leave him the keys post closing time 🤭 Post script, never tried the food as i'm a wee bit fussy about eating out..
