About This Pub
Ah, Charltons Bar & Restaurant – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper community gem in Blyth, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, most folks rave about the staff; they're genuinely helpful and make the whole experience feel warm and inviting, which is just what you want after a long day. The food's another highlight – think hearty options like a pork and apple burger or those chips that everyone seems to love, and it's all dog-friendly too, so it's spot on if you're out with the family and the four-legged ones. They've even been sprucing up the outdoor areas, which adds a nice touch for those sunny afternoons. But let's be honest, it's not all perfect; there have been a few tales of long waits for meals that didn't quite hit the mark, like when the peas turned out to be from a tin or the mash was nothing special. And occasionally, the service can slip into being a bit brusque, which is a pity because it usually shines. The interior's a bit on the dark and basic side, and the toilets could really do with an update to match the rest. Overall, though, if you're after a relaxed spot for a bite and a chat without breaking the bank, it's worth a go – just keep your expectations realistic and maybe avoid peak times if you're in a hurry. It's that kind of place that grows on you, flaws and all.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and supportive, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The food hits the spot with options like the pork and apple burger or those lovely chips; it's simple but satisfying, and they even get it out hot and on time most visits.
-
It's a proper dog-friendly spot, which is brilliant if you're popping in with your furry mate for a relaxed meal.
-
The atmosphere is charming in its own way, with a laid-back vibe perfect for chilling out, playing a game of pool, and enjoying the improvements they're making to the outdoor areas.
Cons
-
There can be the odd long wait for food, like over an hour in some cases, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a rush.
-
Some dishes feel a bit basic, with complaints about tinned peas or mash that doesn't quite live up to expectations – it's inexpensive, but you might notice the shortcuts.
-
The interior is a tad dark and could do with a spruce-up, adding to that basic feel rather than enhancing the charm.
-
Service isn't always spot-on; there have been times when it comes across as rude or passive-aggressive, which is a shame given how welcoming it usually is.
-
The toilets are in need of a revamp, which might not ruin your day but could leave you wishing for a bit more polish.

Such a lush place. Great staff, nice food. Chips are lovely. A bit basic and dark interior but it's part of the charm. Dog friendly too.
Been to Charltons before and it was great. I came today with my family for Mothers Day. We waited over an hour for food which was much awful. The peas were definitely tinned and the mash was the same i used at home. One of the girls serving was passive aggressive and rude. And before i left i also went to use the bathroom and was greeted with 4 backed up urinals. Definitely wont be back thoroughly disappointed
Had the pork & apple burger sweet chilli, would have it again, we all had something different it all came at once & all hot. If you're not in a hurry & I don't mean that in a bad way, be there again dog friendly.
Always been one of our favourite places. I like the improvements beeing made in the back yard... Looking forward to the finishing touches.... Toilets could do with a revamp though. Other than that great place to chill, eat and play pool should you wish
Friendly and supportive staff. We got here with the intention to have lunch and was told the kitchen got burnt yesterday. I sympathize with them. But we were told that we can order fish n chips. Mehn! We ate and ate and was overly excited at the meal even though none of us finished their meal. I will eat their cod fish and chips over and over. We got two cods and several other dishes. We were five but ordered 6 different dishes and got 5. When we realized that the 6th was missing, we called one of the staff who apologized, got the meal after few minutes and told us not to pay for it. I wished I could give more. I highly recommended this place for their kind and helpful service and I will sure visit again. Thank you
