About This Pub

Ah, The FoxCover – it's one of those local spots that really pulls you in with its friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices, ideal for a relaxed afternoon or evening out. I've heard from a few mates that the service is top-notch, making you feel like you're chatting with old pals behind the bar, and when the food's on form, like those hearty portions from the new menu, it's an absolute treat that leaves you satisfied without emptying your wallet. That said, it's not all smooth sailing; some folks have had a rough time with the carvery, mentioning lumpy mash and fatty meats that don't quite match the hype, and greasy mains like fish and chips can put a damper on things. Drinks might need a bit more attention too, as not everything comes out as expected. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Ashington, but I'd suggest sticking to their stronger dishes and keeping expectations balanced – it's a gem with a few rough edges, just like any good pub chat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The service is really friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • Prices are spot on for a pub – you'll get good value without breaking the bank, especially with those generous portions.
  • Some of the food hits the mark brilliantly, like the new menu items that folks have raved about for their quality and taste.
  • It's got a fresh vibe with recent refurbishments, perfect for popping in after a bit of shopping or a casual catch-up.
Cons
  • The carvery can be a letdown, with things like lumpy mash and fatty turkey not living up to expectations for the price.
  • Some dishes, such as fish and chips, come out greasy and underwhelming, leaving you wishing for better quality.
  • Drinks might not always hit the spot – like a mocha that lacks that proper chocolatey kick, which is a bit of a shame.
  • There's inconsistency in the food, so you might have a great meal one visit and a disappointing one the next.

We booked a table today for 7 of us to have a carvery 4A and 3k. This place came recommended to us so we thought we would give it a try. We all opted for the carvery. Most of us got turkey and we were so disappointed with the food for the price. The mash potato was lumpy, the turkey was fatty in parts and had thick red bits running through it. We told a member of staff who took the food away. The manager cam to us asking if we would like a desert for free, no thanks as that's an insult. Apparently the red parts are veins from the turkeys rib. This was off a turkey crown and in the middle of the joint of meat. This cost £120 and we will definitely not be back.

I asked for a mocha and had to send it back because I couldn't taste any chocolate. The second one was the same. I ordered the lunch time fish and chips. The fish was mostly greasy batter, very sweet mushy peas and greasy chips. I will not be going there again.

Been here a few times now and popped in today with my partner, no carvery on (perfectly fine) Sunday & Monday only. So new menu and there’s plenty on there for everyone, my partner had the steak & onion melt & I had the Turkish kebab both very nice.
